Trying to decide

Recommended Posts

The outpatient thing would scare me too! I had the gastric sleeve, had a complication (twisted stomach) and ended up in the hospital for six nights! I can not imagine if I had gone home with a twisted stomach and did not have immediate medical care! I have lost 70 pounds with just the sleeve since 12/09/16 and have not experienced some of the issues you get with the malabsorption surgeries such as hair loss and dumping syndrome. I think everyone should decide for themselves what is best long term as you can not change your insides back later! Good luck!

Bleonhardt, you may not be out of the woods yet as to Hair loss. It often is a delayed occurrence. If you make it a year, then you're home free ;)

You are totally right. Almost three months down so hoping I never have that! But I eat very healthy food full of Vitamins and since I don't have the malnutrition issue I am getting the required nutrition. I think that is the key with all of these surgeries no matter what don't you?

You should reconsider having this Surgeon for your procedure. This is not an easy fix and there will be a lot of ups / downs post surgery. If you research the sleeve .. stick to it. I am post op 6 weeks with the sleeve and it's been very hard. Can't imagine having a procedure that will have more risk in regards to my recovery.

Well, put it this way. My daughter had a 13 level spinal fusion done when she was 14. I. E. Big surgery. She had no interruption to her nutrition, except the few days surrounding the procedure. She still lost half her hair. I think it is the trauma of surgery that does it, at least partially. Hers came out evenly all over, not patchy, so you couldn't tell from a distance.

I have also had four spinal surgeries. The last one was in 2001 and took 12 hours. I now have a two level spinal fusion with titanium cages where the disc space was left. I never lost any hair through any of the four surgeries so maybe I am just lucky with surgery..I am not sure! I do know I took the NUT's advice before surgery and did everything I could both before and after to try and mitigate the nutritional issues as well as the Hair loss. As with all of these surgeries everyone will have a different experience!

My doctor said that Hair loss is normal when your body goes through trauma, but doesn't happen to everyone. This surgery is definitely traumatic to the body. My friend had the sleeve about 3+ years ago and lost a good amount of hair BUT she told me she wasn't compliant with Vitamins at first or Protein goals.

It is so hard to keep up with Protein goals at first. Well any time really. You have to work at it believe me I do every day! =)

I'm one week from having my surgery. I'm down 23 pounds from my pre op diet to now (3 weeks) I am still sore but getting better each day. Going to see my primary doctor Thursday since she will be in a huge part of my journey. Follow-up with surgeon next week.

Congrats on your loss so far! How are you feeling? Since this post was a couple weeks ago you've probably lost even more!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!

      Today was rough...
I've been experiencing a headache all day today that just won't go away. I'm thinking it's now progressing into a migraine. Does anyone else get headaches from taking vitamin B12? I did some research and learned that usually a lack of B12 causes headaches. But I've noticed when I take it, I have reoccurring headaches. 😫
