Feeling slightly discouraged!

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone. I was sleeved on 1/31/17. Today is my two week post op. I have lost a total of 12 pounds in 14 days. Feeling super super discourage. Some people have lost that in a week. I know I should NOT compare myself to another as everyone and their bodies are different however just feeling a little discourage and down.

Not sure if this plays a major factor but I was not passing bowel nor drinking my required Protein requirement nor liquid. My nutritionist says the protein intake and liquids is what makes the weight loss. So not sure if me not losing mor had anything to do with that.

Please advice anyone. Thanks so much and Happy Valentine's day to all!!!

Don't get too down on yourself. I lost more weight on the two week diet than I did the two weeks after surgery, but things are starting to pick back up again. Tomorrow I will be 3 weeks post-op and I'm down 18 lbs since surgery. The first week I hardly lost anything because of being so pumped full of fluids while in the hospital.

It is really important to make sure you're getting your Protein & Water in as that will make weight loss harder. Keep focusing on that and things will kick in eventually. I know it's easy to feel bummed when you think you're going to be down 40 lbs in just a few weeks and it doesn't happen, but it'll get there. :)

It is such a challenge to change the way we think about loosing weight. Remember your tummy had surgery, not your mind so you can resort to old thinking and believing until you learn that this time it's different. You will loose, it just takes time and patience. I gained (GAINED) weight after surgery because I had to go back into the hospital...you will get there if you just follow your plan and let your new body work for you. I am now almost 5 months post and am down 72 lbs! One day at a time, friend. You got this!

Please don't feel discouraged. I knwo it is hard not to compare yourself to others but so many things contribute to how fast people lose like age, sex, and how heavy they are. You are doing great! I also wouldn't compare because your body can swell and retain Water because you are healing from a very serious surgery! Everyone's body heals differently.

You have lost 12 pounds!! That is amazing! Be proud of what you have done.

Also, it is VERY important to get in enough fluids and Protein or else your body will hold on tight to your weight because it thinks it is being deprived. That can also make you lose slower.

OMG, I feel like you wrote my post for me. I am 2 and 1/2 weeks out and have lost 12 pounds since surgery. I lost 47 pounds in the 5 weeks leading up to surgery so I think that makes my post surgery weight loss feel even worse, kind of like what was the point, I did better without it. I'm hitting my Water and Protein goals and walking 3-5 miles a day but it's just not moving like I thought it would. I keep telling myself that my body is just playing catch-up because I lost so much pre-surgery but it gets tougher every day to believe it. So frustrating.

I feel discouraged as well. My pre surgery weight was 217. SW 209. I'm almost 6 weeks out and am down to 190. I had complications in surgery so my dr says I'm probably a week behind. I lost one pound last week and zero this week. Any suggestions. I'm trying to increase Water and Protein. I get about 50 grams of protein a day. How many carbs are acceptable to keep losing

Did your doctor give you a goal of 60g of protein a day minimum? That's the usual recommendation. It does make a difference in weight loss if you aren't getting enough fluids and protein in. I don't worry much about tracking carbs at this point, but looking through my food journal I'm averaging anywhere between 20-60g of carbs a day.

It always seems that the heavier you are the quicker the weight comes off. I know that isn't very scientific, but usually that's the case with a lot of people.

My nutritionist says we should be doing 80-90g of Protein a day. If you don't have a nutritionist, I highly recommend getting one that specializes in bariatric diets. Fortunately, the place I went to for surgery provides one free of charge for life. She has been a God send and has helped me through stalls & coached me on what I did wrong in the beginning.

Thank you for your responses. Yes Kim the nutritionists said around 80. I find it so hard to get that much in a day! I have started adding Protein powder to my yogurt and even my coffee to try to get it up there. Very rarely can I get more than 60. Any suggestions?

Are you drinking any Protein shakes? What stage are you at?

I'm at the end of 3 weeks, 4 weeks begins tomorrow which means I can introduce regular foods (slowly), although I started 2 days ago with chicken breast.

I usually hit 80-90g of Protein a day. I always have one Protein shake, which I make with soy or almond milk, plus Protein Powder (20g). That can get me between 25-35g of protein, depending on what I put in the shake (sometimes I also blend greek yogurt or a small block of tofu into the shake which also ups the protein even more.) I also try to have one or two eggs a day, and I usually have some string cheese as a snack as well (sometimes 2). When I started purees I ate canned tuna (with a little cheese) or the ricotta bake for one of meals. I also added unflavoured powder to blended Soups. This is all really protein heavy, but it gets me to my goals. Now that I'm starting with regular foods, I will be adding more veggies, when I can, and will try to cut back on the cheese, so that my diet is more balanced.

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
