I'm 2 yrs out and gaining weight back. Need help and support.

Recommended Posts

I will be 2 years out on Friday and lost 164 lbs. I had a major foot surgery in august that had me grounded for a long time. Could hardly walk for 2 months. Since then I have been a bit depressed and unmotivated. Got on the scale last night and realized I had gained 25 lbs. well that has snapped me out of my funk but I have no clue where to start. I would love to connect with people who have successfully lost weight that was gained back after surgery. Thanks!

Maybe go back to step three (the stage right after soft foods) for a little while? Cut out some of the carbs? In the support group meeting I went to last week that's what was told to the group anyway by one of our RDs.

The obvious answer is go back to basics.....original protein/fluid/carb goals. Go back to measuring and tracking if you've stopped. Basically whatever you did to lose those 164 pounds the first time is what you have to do again.

I was run over by a tractor and shattered my pelvis and femur when I was just shy of 3 years postop. Was in the hospital for a month and gained 10 pounds on the carb heavy food they served. Went home in a wheelchair and transitioned to a walker over several months. I was extremely depressed over being so helpless. I had stopped seeing my therapist about 6 months earlier but went back to regular visits to help me with my depression so those 10 pounds didn't turn into 100.

So if you aren't seeing a therapist, I suggest finding one. In the meantime work on finding your motivation. Dig up old photos of the "before" you. Sit down and make a list of your NSVs. What can you do now that you couldn't do 164 pounds ago? How do you feel? If you don't want to go back to the old you, pull up your skinny girl panties and do what you know you need to, and can do again.

Thank you. But as bad as it was when I was going through it, in the end it definitely made me stronger and I am better off knowing what I'm capable of accomplishing. I shared my story in hopes to inspire others to overcome their personal setbacks on this never ending roller coaster of life. Today's mountains are all too often tomorrow's molehills.

Hey! I totally understand! Im 3 years post, and have gained 30. Let's do this together! First thing I did wss get my book out and go back to basics, yes that is HARD, but I have to do this! I loved the way I looked and felt at goal (in my case 100 lbs!) And I want that back. Another step I took was to contact my Dr office and find a support group in my area. And know what Im back on this site reading everyones stories. Somehow it keeps me from feeling not so alone! Friend me and we can support each other!!!

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
