My date is March 7th too! Such a mix of emotions right now-mostly excited to do it already! I have a 2-week pre-op diet of only liquids. I wish I could jump ahead to 2 weeks post-op. Not looking forward to the pain, anesthesia, recovery etc. After that I hope it will be just a new shiny path. Would love to keep in touch with all of you other March people. I look on these forums every day, and have so much appreciated all of the insight everyone has shared. Also, is there anyone in Spokane, WA having surgery in March? Would love to meet some face-to-face surgery buddies!

Anyone else think it's weird that some people have to do the 2 week fast and others don't? My surgeon requires nothing other than no eating or drinking past midnight the day before surgery. Obviously he wants me to start making changes now to help prepare me but I don't have to do any liquid diet or anything at all.

I think it depends on your BMI, Current weight and health status. I've heard that a high BMI will result in a two week liquid diet. I'm preparing myself for that.

It is based on the amount of fat around your liver mostly. If you have fatty liver disease, it can cause the liver to get in the way and prevent surgery. The goal is to make the liver smaller. This is mainly offered to persons whom carry fat in their midsection.

I have fatty liver disease so I will have a 2 week liquid diet. Some people have to do 3 weeks and others only need 1 week. It all depends on your body.

In addition, surgeons also can decide what is safe for the patients. A liquid diet may cause more damage than good.

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
