I have been going at this trying to get all of my approvals for a year now. I have surgery roux en y for 1/26/2017. I almost there and I'm feeling like I'm loosing the umph, the happiness, I really don't know what to call it. I should be really excited and instead I'm just kinda like uh . I don't know if it's because I've been so emotional during the 2 week liquid diet or I'm just tired of trying to tell my self it's worth it or what. Did anyone else have this issue. Am I just tired?

I started my surgery process (initial seminar) 9/15. I had all the appointments & testing done & was set to have surgery 1/16. I ended up having to postpone surgery because of low Iron. I finally got my surgery 9/26/16 so like you it was a year later. I did feel that way at the end! The liquid diet presurgery was so hard! I had a good recovery & am really happy I was patient & still went ahead with it! I am down 60 lbs in almost 4 months! It was definitely a tough road getting there, but the best decision for myself!

The pre-op liquid diet will mess with you head badly! I nearly backed out after jumping through hoops to get my passport (as I went to Mexico to have mine done as I got tired of the hoops from the insurance company). It's normal!

From Australia here!!...

I've had my sleeve already but I see a lot of American s and some others go to Mexico for surgery.

Is it cheaper ?.. different qualifications u need or not?

Just interested that's all.

I paid around $26000 out of pocket no insurance

It took me 11 months from the initial orientation, where I knew I wanted surgery desperately that first day, to finally getting surgery.

I banged out all my pre-op stuff within a month, got my CPAP, and then . . . waited, and waited, and waited to be seen by the psychologist, nutritionist, and other medical staff required for the insurance hoops to jump through.

Then my surgery was postponed 2x (five months!) due to insurance snafus and the doctor deciding to go away for vacation the week of my planned surgery, pushing it back further.

By the time surgery happened, I was totally over the whole process and was just freaked out it would be delayed or cancelled again due to some unforeseen event beyond my control! LOL.

The only "plus" to the drawn-out process is I had obsessively scoped out this site and knew what to expect, had all my supplies ready to go, and was just ready to get on with my life.

I'm 4 months out and, while very happy with the surgery and comfortable with the new eating lifestyle plan, I'm a little "meh" with my loss. I'm happy to be -55, but a little discouraged it slowed down and I still have another 60-80 lbs to go. Still feels a long way off to goal -- or even Onederland.

IDK if this helps or hurts you, but I think waiting so long does kill a bit of the buzz. Good news is though, you're ready, and it IS dramatic the changes, especially the first month or two. You'll be totally jazzed at the rapid changes.

Mexico is significantly cheaper - most doctors are between $4000-$6000 dollars, with a few high end ones pushing closer to 8 or 9 thousand. You don't have to go through any tests, but there is an extensive health form you have to fill out to be approved. Only one doctor had some concerns about a pre-existing condition of mine, but no others did, including my specialist here in Japan who thinks the surgery will be good for me. Anyway, I'm assuming you paid in Aussie dollars, which, with the current exchange rate is about $20,000 US. I'm travelling from Japan - business class the whole way - and my flight + surgery all together will be less than $8000. If I had the surgery in Japan, it would have cost me somewhere between 20-25,000 dollars, which I absolutely don't have.

I'm sorry to hear you had such a long drawn out process. I imagine that would definitely contribute to feeling over it.

After tomorrow it'll all be worth it.

7 weeks post op myself and all the negatives of the liquid and puréed stage feel like a distant memory.

Don't forget you will hit stalls but don't be discouraged. Just try to stick to Water and Protein requirements!

Hmm I need read more up on the rny, I had the sleeve and we don't have a hunger sensations sardonic because that part was removed. So although I have an appetite and want food, mostly out of boredom because im.not exactly a food addict, I have no desire to eat or hunger pains. Good luck...the surgery may have something to do with why you arent having an appetite ????

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
