How do I manage to get enough protein daily!?

I am 6 weeks post-op and I am having trouble getting my 60-80 grams of protein! I know there are some days that I am only getting at most 20 grams. I try to drink a Protein Shake a day which is 30 grams but don't always get one in. As for my meals. I try to make it as high in Protein as I can but I am still only able to eat maybe 1/2 cup of food at my meals. Some meals not even a 1/2 cup! So with trying to get my Water in and not drinking too close before or after meals and trying to get a shake in during my drinking I am having trouble! What are some tricks you guys use in order to get or what are some high protein food choices you guys use in order to get as much as we need? Thank you for any helpful tips or ideas!

Babybell cheese is 5 pro.

.5 cup cottage cheese is 10 pro.

.5 of a large Wendy's chili is 11.5 pro.

Greek yogurt used as sour cream in chili.

Homemade meatballs!

Sausage or bacon for Breakfast.

eggs with havarti and hot sauce, if you want more Protein scramble with Greek yogurt to make them fluffy.

Shrimp! They go down easy anytime that I'm having an off day.

Try nectar fuzzy navel Protein it is clear and tastes like tang. Ask the doctor if you need a certain amount of Water or if the Protein Drink counts for that. Mix plain Greek yogurt with sugar free jelly. Eat cottage cheese...mostly the Protein drinks. My doc let me count liquid Fluid oz I drank 3 a day in the beginning. I'm going on 3 yrs out.

Boy, I remember those days, just keep doing the best you can, it will come together, I struggled with Water, and as you said, waiting to eat after drinking it was difficult for me. But now I get around 70-90 Protein in a day, so if I get low day I am not too worried. Fish is lighter on your tummy and is packed with Protein, canned tuna with a little mayo is good too. Peanut Butter also goes down well. Like the above said, cottage cheese, greek yogurt, all help. Keep a scale handy, to keep track of oz's as protein goes up with larger amounts, eggs as well , hard boil them to have on hand.

Besides shakes, I eat lots of tuna, chicken or turkey. Lean pork is a good choice too. eggs are great, and now that I am on solid food, I will eat one or two Quest Protein bars a day.

I also like ground beef, but there is a calorie penalty not everyone is willing to pay. I just made some killer chili that has 25 grams of Protein in a half cup serving, but it also has 275 calories. The good news is, virtually all of the carbs are from Beans, which means I am getting some good Fiber too.

In the beginning I didn't have anything that didn't have Protein in it. I drank Protein shakes at "meal" premier shakes, and I had Syntrax nectar as my Water between meals. So I was drinking Protein all day, and getting my protein in. If your shakes are too thick and it is taking you too long to drink them, get something that is the consistency of Water like Syntrax Nectar.

Also adding unflavored protein to lukewarm broth. Warm fluids were easier for me to drink, and I could drink more of them, so unflavored protein and broth is a great way to get more protein in also.

1 oz of mixed nuts, 1 oz of chicken cubes and 1 oz of Swiss cheese= 27 gr Protein.

Besides shakes, I eat lots of tuna, chicken or turkey. Lean pork is a good choice too. eggs are great, and now that I am on solid food, I will eat one or two Quest Protein Bars a day.

I also like ground beef, but there is a calorie penalty not everyone is willing to pay. I just made some killer chili that has 25 grams of Protein in a half cup serving, but it also has 275 calories. The good news is, virtually all of the carbs are from Beans, which means I am getting some good Fiber too.

I should still be upping my calories. I'm getting about 7-800 calories per day and I would prefer to be closer to 1000. I eat chili from Wendy's 3-4 times per week and the fiber keeps me regular. That Wendy's chili is actually quite healthy other than the salt.

The three most important elements after RNY gastric bypass surgery are to meet your daily Protein, Fluid and Vitamin requirements. food is secondary because your body is converting your stored fat into the energy that drives your body. Thus you lose weight.

Weight loss is achieved after surgery through meal volume control. You begin at 2 ounces (1/4 cup) per meal and gradually over the next year and a half increase the volume to 1 cup per meal. With this minuscule amount of food, it is next to impossible to meet your Protein daily requirements by food alone, so therefore you need to rely on supplements such as Protein shakes.
It is common for your taste buds to change after surgery. I remember in the hospital after surgery I could not drink the Water because it tasted very chlorinated. Eventually I found flavored water such as Crystal Light to work O.K. Many experience problems drinking Protein Shakes. I hated them. But in the beginning I drank them, three 16-ounce protein shakes a day, in order to meet my protein requirements. You do not have to like protein shakes only tolerate them. There are many varieties of protein shakes available today. Experiment until you can find one you can tolerate. Over time as your meal volume increases, if you concentrate on consuming high protein meals, you can begin to reduce your reliance on protein shakes. I went from 3 a day, down to 2, down to 1 and eventually none when I reached 1 cup per meal at a year and a half post-op.

My nutritionist actually told me to eat more salt. My blood pressure has been running low since surgery. The stuff I made has kidney Beans, black beans, garbanzo beans, a little bit of corn, and lots of spice along with onions, Tomato sauce and beef.

I'm not doing shakes anymore (thank God cause I hate em) but I start my day with Greek yogurt which has 14 grams of Protein, then according to my NUTRITION COACH, for every 1oz of meat I eat (chicken, Turkey, fish) [steak later on for you] it's about 8 grams of Protein. Also with your meals eat your protein 1st. If you're eating 1/2 cup [4 oz] if you ate a 3 oz piece of turkey and 1 oz of lima Beans, that's about 30 grams of protein right there. That's breakfast of 14g for the yogurt, lunch 30g from the Beans and turkey......your at about 45 grams for just those 2 meals. You could also drink low fat milk to get your protein in its about 8 grams of protein a well.

      Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!

      Today was rough...
      I've been experiencing a headache all day today that just won't go away. I'm thinking it's now progressing into a migraine. Does anyone else get headaches from taking vitamin B12? I did some research and learned that usually a lack of B12 causes headaches. But I've noticed when I take it, I have reoccurring headaches. 😫
