Scared to eat

Recommended Posts

I'm due to have band to bypass on tues 22nd Nov. I will be on stage 1 liquid for two days and then stage 3 pureed food up to week 4. I just can't get my head around putting food into a raw pouch. The thought of having to eat or trying to eat afterwards terrifies me. Anyone else feel the same?

Oh YES!!! I'm 3 years out but I can tell you I was terrified to eat even after I was told to go to soft foods. I had problems with Strictures so I was very limited in what I could eat. I never even thought of cheating preop because I was afraid he would cancel my surgery. Postop I was so afraid that I would ruin my pouch. I did 2 weeks preop on Protein Drinks and 4 weeks postop. I believe everyone is afraid that they will hurt from eating. Just remember to chew and chew some more. Sip and make sure you get all of your fluids in. It will be hard at first but just keep trying. It is so important.

Good luck on your upcoming surgery. After my RNY gastric bypass surgery, I was directed to consume full liquids for the first 4 weeks and then pureed foods for the next four. It was only when I reached week 9 that I could transition to solid foods. During the food transitions I found that transitioning to solid foods was the greatest challenge. There is no need to rush these transitions, just take your time.

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
