Hello everyone,

My name is Sami, I am 20 years old, and I was banded on September 27th, 2016!

I started my journey in February, 2016, weighing 297lbs. Almost hitting 300lbs at such a young age triggered my curiosity to explore different wild options.

I decided that lap band would be my best option, and with that took the next 7 months to prepare my body and mind for the eating and lifestyle changes coming my way.

Here are my weight loss stats so far:

HW: 297lbs

SW (1st recorded weight w/ doc): 291lbs

SW (pre-op diet): 275lbs

Day of Surgery: 261lbs

CW: 258lbs

Total weight loss: 39lbs

My surgery went great! However, I came out expecting 5 incisions, and only have 2!!

Does anybody else have only 2 scars as well? I'm not complaining lol, I'm just wondering if this is common.

Thanks for listening,

#newgirlwhodis

Hi, Sami. You're off to a great start and I'm glad you mentioned that you're prepared for change.

Not all surgeons do the five-incision procedure. I don't know that a surgeon will do it only one way. It may depend on an individual patient for some reason. It may depend on whether the surgeon had a good Breakfast that morning. Who knows how the wackos think?

Before my surgery, I met someone who had one incision -- in the belly button. It seems it was to be the new thing. I don't know how common that is. I asked my surgeon about it. She thought it left too much risk for hernia. I have the five you were expecting.

Two incisions sound nice. Where are they positioned?

Well, my post- op instructions said to take the waterproof bandaging off today, so I now have a better look at my scars!

I have one small cut in the middle of my upper stomach area, what seems to be one long cut across my belly button, and what may be another small incision right under my belly button.

My steri strips aren't very secure around my belly button however, do you think this should concern me??

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
