Sleeve size/drinking

Recommended Posts

Just wondering what size "bougie" (sp?) surgeons used. Mine used a 38f and said that is the most popularly used one. However, I have seen people refer to smaller and am just wondering.

I'm three days out and having no problem drinking. It was a little painful on days one and two, but it feels better already. Is that normal? Do I still need to take tiny sips, or can I take more regular mouthfuls of liquids?

Still take sips.. Some won't feel the restriction till you're on the purée phase and others don't feel it till they're on the soft food stage. But drinking too much liquid can cause pain and discomfort.

I never even wondered about the bougie size..

drink small sips as whatever is comfortable.

it probably has a lot more to do with the swelling going down than what size they used.

I'm 3 weeks post-op yet I still can't figure out how to drink my Water. Some days I can only sip it. Other days I gulp. Sometimes I can even chug it. Yesterday I was able to chug an 8oz. glass of Water, yet today I can only sip. It has been kind of bizarre.

Like you, I had some mild discomfort the 1st couple days. Since then, I've had no trouble getting in my water.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
