Expected weight loss at 6 months out

Recommended Posts

I'm wondering how much weight to expect at the 6 month mark after a band to RNY revision? Also is the 6 month mark when you slow down? 1 year? I have about 120 to lose. Thanks in advance for your help with my curiosity!

I am having RNY on August 18th, and I've been told to take full advantage of the first 18 months post surgery since that's the "honeymoon" period before your body tries to slow down a bit.

I just had a band to bypass revision last week and my surgeon said the revisions she has done lost weight at the same rate as non-revisions. She also said the main weight loss period is a year to 18 months. Hope that helps.

Honestly I don't think anyone can answer your question. Everyone loses at a different pace and you really can not time box what you will lose in a given period.

You cannot account for stalls which happen all along the way even in the first month. Sometimes those stalls last a week to 10 days and sometimes they last a lot longer.

The important thing is that you get a great start by getting all of the fluids you possibly can right after surgery followed by your Protein. Lastly your Vitamins and moving around as much as you can. If you focus on those things the weight will come off.

I think almost everyone underestimates the importance of of Water. It really is the thing that matters most right out of the gate and continues to matter in both losing and maintaining.

Best of luck to you!

I am 3 years post-op RNY gastric bypass surgery and I transitioned from the Weight Loss phase to the Maintenance phase at around 7 months. This photograph describes better than words what 6 months post-op can look like.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
