Which fresh fruit does not cause dumping?

I'm still scared of fruit after 1 year. I've had success with berries, but I am wondering what other fresh fruit is safe to eat. Which fruits seem safe?

I'm 5 months PO and I eat berries, bananas, peaches, melons without any problems....the skin on apples, grapes and oranges can give me some issues if I eat too much of it. I have only had one mild case of dumping early on from creamy peanut butter...haven't touched it since...lol

I'm a year out and I've had bananas, apples, oranges, watermelon, cantaloupe, grapes, blueberries, raspberries, pineapple, peaches, nectarines, plums. fruit has become the lion's share of my diet in fact. I eat it every single day. I've never dumped or had an issue with it either.

meat on the other hand I no longer have a taste for. Everyone is different I guess.

My NUT told me fruit doesn't cause dumping as a rule because fruit sugar is fructose and fructose is absorbed further down the intestinal tract than refined sugars or sugar alcohols even. That being said, I am 8 months out and have eaten grapes, watermelon, apples, bananas, strawberries, blueberries, cherries, peaches, clementines, nectarines, pineapple, kiwi, cantaloupe, and honey dew melon all without any problems. fruit has never caused a single episode of dumping and I eat it every single day several times a day. I am addicted to fruit. LOL!

I eat berries of any kind, watermelon, bananas, grapes, apples, peaches, pineapple, cherries (my personal favorite)

I will say I don't tolerate the skins on fruits like apples and pears so I peel them. I am not sure why almost 2 years post op but that is my only fruit issue.

Fruit rocks! Don't be afraid you should do just fine. Try it in small amounts one fruit at a time.

Ditto. No issues with fruits here and I tolerate the apple skins just fine. Blueberries and blackberries are my favorite and I eat them every morning. But I have also had apples, watermelon, banana, clementine, strawberries, etc. Try eating it with a Protein - cheese or Peanut Butter - if eating as a snack and not part of a meal. And if you are worried, perhaps avoid the higher sugar ones for a while (bananas and oranges and cantaloupe for example) or just make sure to eat a smaller portion of those.

That being said, I am 8 months out and have eaten grapes, watermelon, apples, bananas, strawberries, blueberries, cherries, peaches, clementines, nectarines, pineapple, kiwi, cantaloupe, and honey dew melon all without any problems.

My NUT told me to avoid all refined and natural sugars because they indefinitely cause dumping. She told me never to blend fruits or veggies with my Protein shakes because they add calories. I think she said that to scare me out of sugar altogether because I'm finding that some of the things she told me aren't true by talking to my doctor and people who have gone through it firsthand.

pineapple did cause issues for me, but no problems with berries, apples, bananas, and oranges. I am 10 months out now...

Thanks for the info that pineapple might cause trouble. I suspected that it might since it is one of the sweetest fruits.

This is my personal opinion so take it for what it is worth. Having had this experience since the very first allowable puréed meal. Balance in your diet is critical to longer term success.

I have read a lot about diets of Protein only or Protein first and although they put you into ketosis and cause rapid weight loss, they are harder to stick with in the long run.

Making sure that your diet during weight loss is inclusive of good quality protein, good carbs like fruit and vegetables is key to long term success. It is simply more realistic for me to stick with. Once you get close to goal adding real whole grains back into your diet in small amounts will also help.

Honestly I was shocked when my nut had me start my pureed diet and had me include unsweetened applesauce. I thought for sure that was a mistake. After I read about protein first and then if there is room, I specifically asked her about this along with my surgeon. Both of them reiterated they did not believe in that approach for long term sustainability. They taught me to eat 2 bites of dense protein to every 1 bit of good carbs like fruit and vegetables. While in the lose phase they asked that I limit starchy vegetables like potatoes until I got close to goal. Even now 5 months after hitting goal, I will cook a good protein and 2 vegetables instead of adding that starch. I have fruit once or twice a day as a snack, sometimes with a nut butter. YUM.

For me, after trying Atkins and so many other high protein, no carb diets I feel like I can stick to this approach more easily and anything that will give me long term results just seems to stay better with me.

Now that being said, every once in a while I have a day where I have a treat that is probably not the best for me but because I follow the balanced approach it is so easy for me to get right back on track. Usually after I have a treat that I think I really want, I have it and immediately think why did I even want that? It didn't taste that great and I would rather have some fresh cherries or watermelon.

Anyway....everything in moderation is my new motto.

It would be tough not having fresh fruit in my diet. I'm 15 weeks out and have tried everything with no issues (all berries, melons, nectarines, peaches, cherries, etc). Go for it. I do miss fresh orange juice.

Obviously how you tolerate fruits is crucial and you won't know unless you try. Try at home to be safe :)

As far as the sugar....every skinny person I know eats lots of fruit.

      So I guess after gastric bypass surgery, I cant eat flock chips because they are fried???  They sell them on here so I thought I could have them. So high in protein and no carbs.  They don't bother me at all.  Help.

        It's possible for a very high fat meal to cause dumping in some (30% or so) gastric bypass patients, although it's more likely to be triggered by high sugar, or by the high fat/high sugar combo (think ice cream, donuts). Dietitians will tell you to never do anything that isn't 100% healthy ever again. Realistically, you should aim for a good balance of protein, carbs, and fat each day. Should you eat fried foods every day? No. Is it possible they will make you sick? Maybe. Is it okay to eat some to see what happens and have them for a treat every now and again? Yes.

      I'm not at all hungry on this liquid pre-op diet, but I miss the sensation of chewing. It's been about two weeks––surgery is in two days––and I can't imagine how I'll feel a couple of weeks post-op. Tonight, I randomly stumbled upon a mukbang channel on YouTube, and it was strangely soothing... is it just me, or is this a thing?

        I actually watched cooking shows during my pre-op, like Great British Baking Show. It was a little bizarre, but didn't make me hungry. I think it was also soothing in a way.

      How do you figure out what your ideal weight should be? I've had a figure in my head for years, but after 3 mths of recovery I'm already almost there. So maybe my goal should be lower?

        Well, there is actually a formula for "Ideal Body Weight" and you can use a calculator to figure it out for you. This one also does an adjusted weight for a person who starts out overweight or obese. https://www.mdcalc.com/calc/68/ideal-body-weight-adjusted-body-weight

        I would use that as a starting point, and then just see how you feel as you lose. How you look and feel is more important than a number.

        I did find different calculators but I couldn't find any that accounted for body frame. But you're right, it is just a number. It was just disheartening to see that although I lost 60% of my excess weight, it's still not in the "normal/healthy" range..

        I think it's important to remember that the weight charts and BMI ranges were developed a very long time ago and only intended to be applied to people who have never been overweight or obese. Those numbers aren't for us. When you are larger, especially for a long time, your body develops extra bone to support the weight. Your organs get a little bigger to handle the extra mass. Your entire infrastructure increases so you can support and function with the extra weight. That doesn't all go away just because you burn off the excess fat. If you still had a pair of jeans from your skinniest point in life and then lost weight to get to the exact number on the scale you were when those jeans fit you, chances are they would be a little baggy now because you would actually be thinner than you were, even though the scale and the BMI chart disagree. When in doubt, listen to the jeans, not the scale!

      Tomorrow marks two weeks since surgery day and while I'm feeling remarkably well and going about just about every normal activity, I did wind up with a surface abscess on on of my incision sights and was put on an antibiotic that made me so impacted that it took me more than two hours to eliminate yesterday and scared the hell out of me. Now there's Miralax in all my beverages that aren't Smooth Move tea. I cannot experience that again. I shouldn't have to take Ativan to go to the lady's. I really looking forward to my body getting with the program again. 
      I'm in day three of the "puree" stage of eating and despite the strange textures, all of the savory flavors seem decadent. 
      I timed this surgery so that I'd be recovering during my spring break. That was a good plan. Today is a state holiday and the final day of break. I feel really strong to return to school tomorrow.

      Now that I'm in maintenance mode, I'm getting a into a routine for my meals. Every day, I start out with 8-16 ounces of water, and then a proffee, which I have come to look forward to even the night before. My proffees are simply a black coffee with a protein powder added. There are three products that I cycle through: Premier Vanilla, Orgain Vanilla, and Dymatize Vanilla.
      For second breakfast on workdays, I will have a low-fat yogurt with two tablespoons of PBFit and two teaspoons of no sugar added dried cherries. I will have ingested 35-45 grams of protein at this point between the two breakfasts, with 250-285 calories, and about 20 carbs.
      For second breakfast on non-workdays, I will prepare two servings of plain, instant oatmeal with a tablespoon of an olive oil-based spread. This means I will have had 34 grams of protein, 365 calories, and 38 carbs. Non-workdays are when I am being very active with training sessions, so I allow myself more carbohydrate fuel.
      Snacks on any day are always mixed nuts, even when I am travelling. I will have 0.2 cups of a blend that I make myself. It consists of dry roasted peanuts, cashews, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, pistachios, and Brazil nuts. This is 5 grams of protein, 163 calories, and 7 carbs.
      Breakfast and snacks have been the easiest to nail down. Lunch and dinner have more variables, and I prepare enough for leftovers. I concentrate on protein first, and then add vegetables. Typically tempeh, tofu, or Field Roast products with roasted or sautéed vegetables. Today, I will be eating leftovers from last night. Two ounces of tempeh with four ounces of roasted vegetables that consist of red and yellow sweet peppers, sweet potatoes, small purple potatoes, zucchini, and carrots. I will add a tablespoon of olive oil-based spread, break up 3 walnuts to sprinkle of top, and garnish with two tablespoons of grated Parmesan cheese. This particular meal will be 19 grams of protein, 377 calories, and 28 grams of carbs. Bear in mind that I do eat more carbs when I am not working, and I focus on ingesting healthy carbs instead of breads/crackers/chips/crisps.
      It's a helluva journey and I'm thankful to be on it!
