Do u have to have Drain come out of your cuts after surgery

Recommended Posts

I did not. My incisions are very small (less than an inch each) and they are stitched closed with dissolvable stitches and covered in a type of glue. No drains. Not saying it's the same for everyone since some surgeons are different but so far this is the most common way I've seen.

I currently have a drain. Surgery was 6/20 (Monday)

Was there a specific reason why you needed one or was that planned pre surgery?

My surgical clinic uses one for one week on every patient. It's very uncomfortable and is slowing down my recovery ( in my opinion).

Interesting. Most of the info/posts I have read tell you they don't use a tube unless there is a lot of Fluid buildup and they need to. Guess that just goes to show how different each surgeon is.

My surgeon does not use a drain unless necessary, which he said is about 2 times a year.

I had a drain. I think all of the patients who have the surgery in the hospital I was in get it. I only had it for the two nights I stayed in the hospital and they took it out. There was a lot of Fluid in it. I'm not sure where that Fluid would go for people who don't get it.

I had a drain too, and as you stated there was ALOT of fluid in it. I had it in for two days.

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
