Why is it important to take isolate Protein powder post op?

What happens if the amount of Protein intake is not the recommended 60 to 80g a day?

Also, is it normal for it to cost nearly $100 for a 3lb pack of isolate Protein?

I use protein powder/shakes/supplements because it is an easy way to get enough protein, especially early post-op when it is hard to consume enough food /liquids to get in the required protein.

If you do not get enough protein it will hinder healing, and weight loss.

If you are chronically protein deficient, you could experience serious health repercussions.

As to $100 for a tub of protein supplement, that is pretty expensive. I certainly wouldn't buy 3 pounds of anything until I determined if I even liked it.

Try sample or single-serve packs until you find something you like.

Premier Protein ready to drink shakes are pretty universally liked and tolerated.

It's the only way I could meet Protein goals for the first several months and now that I'm in maintenance it's an easy way to get in all my protein. It allows me to eat more variety of veggies, fruit and whole grains and not have to eat protein for EVERY meal and snack. Even at 28 months out I still have a cupboard full of my favorite protein powders. In fact, I'm sipping on a vanilla Carmel protein smoothie as I type this. 24oz fluids, 30g protein, 200 calories. Win win win. Premier Protein is a staple in my fridge. And I pay $25 - $35 for a 2 - 2 1/2 pound jug, so $100 for 3 pounds is a total rip off.

Both stores that I purchase my Protein from will buy it back from me if I don't like it, which is nice. Basically they will give you a refund. Now mind you these are small family owned health food stores, not the big ones. But I have heard that most of them do this. It is too expensive, take it back and buy some small sample packets to see if you like something a little cheaper. Like@@Kindle, my fridge is stocked with Premiere Protein as well. There are so many choices out there that are much less expensive to experiment with. It is the easiest way I have found to get in the required 70-90 grams of protein....you are early out in your surgery, as @@Inner Surfer Girl said, it can have serious consequences if you become protein deficient. Good luck, I hope you find something that works for you.

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
