The omega loop procedure may displace traditional gastric bypass

Hello Everyone,

I'm new to the Forum. I'm researching getting the Mini-bypass procedure done. I found this article very interesting, so I wanted to share it. I hope the link works.

"The Omega loop, also known as single-anastomosis or “mini” gastric bypass, is becoming increasingly popular. Benefits of the procedure include shorter procedure times (over 40 minutes shorter than bypass) and better weight loss (72.9% excess weight loss vs. 60.1%) than traditional bypass.

It’s too soon to say if the Omega loop will fully displace traditional gastric bypass, but we expect to hear about providers adopting and publicizing this new approach to patients."

Thank you for posting this. My surgeon has recommended the Omega Loop Bypass for me when I'd been thinking all along I'd go for the RNY. So now I'm doing my research. :)

I had it done 2 months ago and it has been great. I had minimal pain and have not had any dumping or vomiting, I don't have reflux or nausea with it either. Wounds healed with no trouble and I had no problems in theatre despite being diabetic with very high BMI. I can eat a normal diet already. I have already lost loads! I'm very happy with the choice I made, best decision ever and I already feel healthier than I have a decade or more.

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
