I go in on Wed the 10th for a Roux en y. I was curious if them sending home pain meds is the norm after you are released? I'm nervous about the pain part because it seems sometimes regular methods didn't help when I was hospitalized this past Aug and they ended up putting me on Diloded which helped. It was traumatising the pain I was in. So just super nervous about that part!!!

Don't be nervous. Most people only need the pain meds for a few days and yes they send you home on liquid pain medications.

The worst pain is that lousy gas they use to expand your tummy. The pain meds don't really help that, what helps is heat packs, walking and sipping Water.

I was on dilaudid the first day, the next day in the hospital they started me on liquid Vicodin (I am allergic to Percocet). I was in the hospital 2 nights, got home on wed. Took the Vicodin for moderate discomfort on Thursday and by Friday I stopped taking anything.

They will make sure you have good pain control before you leave the hospital. I have been hospitalized before for pain control and honestly for me this surgery was more about discomfort that severe pain.

You tend to be a bit nauseous and they give you meds for that as well.

Good luck on your surgery and try not to worry.

Thank you! I had multiple DVTs and PEs so when they went in to bust them up I was in the worst pain I'd ever been in my life. I kept passing out from the pain so I have more anxiety about pain then anything else!! This really helped, thank you again!!

Most surgeons will send you home on some form of Hydrocodone or Oxydodone (liquid). During my post op stay my surgeon had me on IV acetaminophen drips q6 hrs which helped IMMENSLY.

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
