Any Second Thoughts while on pre-op Diet?

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

Having my sleeve surgery on the 5th of January. Started preop diet - my particular Dr. has his clients do Bariatric Advantage - shakes and bars only. Nothing else. I'm so SICK... literaly SICK. It's disgustingly sweet, even the unflavored is sweetened. Anyone think to themselves - what the heck am I doing this for? How do you get ahead of your mind?

Thanks much!

oh yeah been there. Try different brands of Protein. Try mixes and pre made ones. There are good ones on this very site.

Just keep telling yourself that YOU CAN DO IT! the liquid phase is only a short while

There are plenty out there. My surgeon sells his own brand of shakes and i was not a fan of the price or taste. I ordered Syntrax Nectars and matrix they have a guarantee. If you dont like it they will refund you. I liked some flavors prior to surgery but not after. I also use GENEPRO clear Protein with no flavor from Amazon. There is something out there comparable to what your surgeon pushes im sure. Good luck!

From my two week pre op diet to one week after surgery (today) I am down 22 pounds - and I was about your height/weight - there is a motivator! Good luck!

My surgery is Jan 5th too! I am going to Tijuana. I have been having very mixed feelings! Glad I already got my cashiers check so it is decided! Lol! We can do this!

The only hard part for me was the pre op diet. Looks like you have it easy hahaha. I was on two week liquid only pre op diet. It sucked big time.

But I never had second thoughts.

My only second thoughts during the pre-op diet were, "Hey, you're losing a lot of weight on this diet - do you really need the surgery?" Then I realized I would still need to deal with hunger issues, so I went forward with the operation.

Surprised they only gave you BA as an option. Have you purchased all of the drink mix for the 2 weeks? Call and tell them it's hard for you to tolerate. My doctor gave us BA and powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury to choose from. Both are high quality Protein mixes. It's worth a shot

Good luck

No, I was never remotely tempted to cancel surgery just because I didn't like the taste of the shakes.

You're not on them for life; it's two weeks.

The final day I thought to myself should I really do this? I remembered all my ailment. Told my anesthesiologists. He said it be weird if you didn't think that about an elective surgery. The. He when on to say at first when they started to do these sleeves he was skeptical til his his brother had it and it basically saved his life, the. This little older lady came in who was the chaplain and she prayed with me. She told she was a sleeve candidate and it saved her life. I knew than I made the right choice. I want my quality of life back.

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
