I feel like I am starving

Recommended Posts

are you sure it's not thirst? are you getting enough fluids in? Protein? drink first and wait and see if hungers persists. I have heard an antacid may help because it could be reflux? I haven't had that issue. I occasionally am hungry but it is usually after going long periods of time without eating. I have gone 10 hours in between meals to this day.

I battled with my pre surgical diet the past couple days. I was not drinking my lemon Water.

Cold Water with 1/2 a lemon dropped in.

I was battling hunger.

Today I have my lemon water and am drinking my 3rd 32 oz bottle. I am NOT hungry at all.

I'm not saying it will work for you, but it does me. You could try it.

I hear a lot of this and what I think is it takes the body a while to adjust. Surgery today or last week and we should not expect miracles on the food urges.

Just my opinion, but it makes sense to me. Can you have cream Soups? Does that help.

Some of it may be head hunger. It will take a little time to distinguish between real hunger and your brain telling you that you are hungry. Just follow your plan, get in your Protein, and drink your Water. When you feel "hungry" and you know that it's not time to eat, distract yourself. Go for a walk or go sip on some more Water. And make sure you are waiting the amount of time your surgeon told you before drinking after your meals. Hope it gets better for you soon!

Thank you so much! I go back to work tomorrow so hopefully that helps allot with keeping me occupied. Just very tough when I still have a family to feed.

Have a sf fudge pop. Helps squelch the hunger. Clear Liquids clear the stomach pretty well...it's not hard to get it in when you consider all liquids count toward your 64ozs. What you use to make your shake, Jello, Soup, crystal light drink etc...

I am now 3 weeks post op. Went back to work after a week which I am thankful for because towards the end of the first week I was losing my mind. As someone else said, sugar free ice pops!! Oh my goodness did those help!! And I also didn't start puréed till 2 weeks out! My first 2 weeks were Water, Isopure juice, broth, and sf pops and sf Jello. It was intense!! Now I can have puréed which is anything that is really already "chewed" for you. I really like egg drop Soup, which also contains protein! Yay! And Oikos makes a 15g of Protein yogurt. Once you go back to work, hopefully that keeps you busy! I totally feel ya. Keep busy, and think about why you did this. It's not going to be easy, but it's going to be worth it! Good luck!!

Yea I got about a week until pureed and I'm looking forward to it. I can do cottage cheese, sf pudding, egg beaters....at least then I will feel like I'm eating more food! And I think work will help a ton. Definitely not looking forward to holiday weekend with the picnics.

Honestly, the first 2-3 weeks after surgery were when I felt hungriest. Gradually, the cravings subsided for me and I stopped opening the fridge fifty times a day staring longingly at everything. It gets better.

It's great to know I'm not the only one who feels like this and great to know that hopefully there is an end in site with the feeling of being hungry

I am starving ALL the time. Its not head hunger like people are saying. My stomach is grumbling!!! I cannot wait to eat real food. Hoping when I am on the "mushy" food it will be better.

I am one of the ones struggling with hunger. My surgery was mid-July and I have been in starvation mode since day 1. It can happen and is difficult to deal with. A lot of us that have this problem think that something went wrong with the surgery but it's not. I've been reading a lot on the net and it does happen. Are you getting sick when the hunger pain sets in? The best thing I found is to eat all the time. I literally eat a small something every hour. I have to have little candies in my purse if I'm out and about and the sensation sets in cause then I have to suck on a candy to stop myself from getting sick. As long as I get something in my stomach, I feel ok. No amount of Water or Protein drinks helps me and sugar free anything just makes me more nauseated. I don't have diabetes or anything like that but the sugar from a candy helps me feel better. I've even started mixing vanilla Protein powder with orange juice and that sustains me a lot longer then Protein and Water. I know you're on the liquid part now so eating is more difficult, but try regular Jello instead of sugar free, see if that can help sustain you a little longer. Good luck!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
