You definately want to spend the night....I don't know how people go home after that!! I needed to stay due to my sleep apnea but the hospital I had it done at sends them home....it is strictly a day surgery...can't imagine! I had a lot of post op nausea and gas pain...very glad I stayed.

Part of it will depend on how you react to general anesthesia. I hadn't been under before and found that my (previously undiagnosed) sleep apnea affected my O2 saturation when coming out of anesthesia. I felt good but they wanted to keep me on O2 and monitor me overnight. I'm glad that I stayed just cause it's easier having the hospital bed that first night and they gave me meds via IV that I wouldn't have gotten at home. I think it sped my recovery. Was back at work in 3 days.

I stayed overnight and it was the best thing I could have done! My bed at home, much as I love it, doesn't recline in the way that hospital beds do, and I would have been very dehydrated without the IV fluids. I was lucky - I had a private room, bathroom, etc, that was very spacious in a quiet, private hospital - so perhaps my experience was not normal? Best of luck with your surgery!

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
