How soon did you start driving?

Recommended Posts

Hello fellow sleevers. I just got mine 4 days ago, recovering well, discharged yesterday. I drove a short distance this morning to nearest clinic to get my daily "anti clot" shot, felt very weak and not focused (but made it safely). Any idea when I can drive with confidence again?

I was told I was allowed to start driving ASAP as long as I wasn't on the pain medications

I'm 2 days out of the hospital and 4 days post op

I drove 4 days after surgery from San Diego to Scottsdale, AZ which was about 6 hours. No problems.

Thanks Treed for advice. July 29th too? I was discharged July 31st (extra conservative doctor, didn't let me drink a sip of Water till 2 days post op). Good luck with your recovery. In all fairness I'm drinking well, keeping fluids down, and pain at this stage is negligible.

Thank you Shustar!

I agree with Treed. As long as you feel comfortable and not on meds, I think it's ok. I was driving 3 days after surgery.

Avoid prolonged sitting in car. Like a trip. Blood clots are always an issue. Driving to Errands or MD appointment should be fine if you feel GOOD.

I was sleeved on the 21st and started driving on the 26th, but only in short distances around town. Just in the last few days I've driven farther than 5 miles from home as I had been feeling dizzy and weak from the surgery.

I was sleeved on a Thursday and drove on Saturday. Drove two hours on Sunday. No issues.

Thanks Jim and everyone who encouraged me. I drove to work today (4 days post op) and it was just fine (I worked shorter hours, not fully there yet).

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
