I am just recently beginning my journey. This is my first post to any forum on any topic ever. I have obtained all the necessary tests and doctors appointments. The only two things I have left to do are having an upper endoscopy and finalize payment. I have decided to keep my procedure to myself because right now I do not want to be judged by people. My struggles with weight are effecting my emotions and the way I feel about myself and it is such a personal and private topic that I don't feel comfortable talking about it to people who I know and love and who love me. This is also difficult because I am usually an open book about my life. I don't know if I will choose to keep this to myself forever but for now I think it is best for my situation. I wanted to know if anyone else has struggle with this decision and have any advice for me.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,

Thenewlisa

Thanks for posting this topic! My husband and I were just discussing this last night. For some reason, the concept of telling everyone about my lap band doesn't bother me. My husband, on the other hand, feels like it would be nobody's business. In the end, it doesn't actually matter to him which route I take. Of greater concern to me is how in the world you would ever, logistically, keep it a secret. I just feel like I'd be lying to everyone all the time and it would come out in the end anyway. Maybe I'm just naive to believe I'd have more support if everyone knew. I think I'm with the guy who posted several months ago that he "told everyone, including the UPS man." That still cracks me up!

I told everyone and anyone. I don't need anyone asking me if I'm on drugs or terminally ill. 95% of people gave me love and support. The rest really don't matter. My kids are happy and are planning alot of outdoor activities for us. Remind you my kids are cool teens. Lol

I told no one and from what I have read, I'm glad I did not....sure, it was a topic of discussion..."You look great, How did you do it??"

No one ever questioned if I was sick because I drank my Water, ate my Protein, and exercised regularly so I did look as healthy as ever....more so.

But that was years ago, I've finished this process back then and no one talks about it anymore...and new people I meet never knew me when I was fat...so it's done, over...old news. Time to move on...and I cannot be more pleased.

Its funny because in an indirect way telling people is actually a great motivation and the way surgery helps with weight loss telling people helps keeping the weight off as you know if you ever did put the weight back on you will be critised by the ones you told.

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
