Liver enzymes very elevated

Recommended Posts

Has anyone had liver enzymes elevated shortly after surgery? I have another dr that ran some blood work after the surgery and my liver enzymes more than quadrupled the maximum for normal . I'm freaking out I feel horrible and still in pain sleeved 4/22 . Sugar level normal a plus I guess... Help hope this will go away .

I had this around the time of surgery (after being in ketosis from pre-op). I was also alarmed, but it went down by my first follow up a couple of months later. It happened again when I went super Low CAL, low fat and low carb (to get holiday weight off a few months ago). (Or at least I assume my enzymes were elevated because I was incredibly itchy and a little red in the face... Which I believe are signs that one's liver is throwing enzymes). That recent time, the itching and redness resolved after I upped my daily calories from about 500 to 900 and I increased my fat intake a little bit (still keeping carbs low).

Hopefully someone who understands the precise chemistry of all this will weigh in with something a little more scientific-- I just wanted to speak up so that you would know you are not alone!

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
