Anyone develop hypothyroidism after surgery?

Recommended Posts

I had the VSG so I would not have health problems. My Bmi was high but I really didn't have any health problems when I had the surgery. I had stage 1 breast cancer about 8 years ago which had not spread and was treated with just surgery, no chemo, no radiation. Been healthy since then other than my weight. I have a family history so heart disease and diabetes, so I chose to have the surgery. I had some blood work done and my thyroid is low. My doctor says my body is still trying to adjust to the weight loss so she is going to recheck the labs in three months. I am tired and my BP drops low and I feel dizzy and have actually passed out. I don't even know what causes hypothyroidism. All I do know is I had this surgery to NOT become sick.

I had hypothyroidism before surgery. You may want to get e referral to an endocrinologist. Your post mentioned that your a cancer survivor. Cancer can pkay havoc with your thyroid gland. Hypothyroidism is very easily treated. The trick is getting a good endocrinologist that does a full series if tests. Look up a lady named Mary Shomon. She us a thyroid activists and has a lot of good information. You definitely want this taken care of because your thyroid controls metabolism. It can really mess up your bodies ability to lose weight. Good luck.

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!

      Today was rough...
I've been experiencing a headache all day today that just won't go away. I'm thinking it's now progressing into a migraine. Does anyone else get headaches from taking vitamin B12? I did some research and learned that usually a lack of B12 causes headaches. But I've noticed when I take it, I have reoccurring headaches. 😫
