I'm still hungry!

Recommended Posts

I am a week post op today! Whoohoo! I am worried about my future success because I'm still hungry! I am struggling between enough Water and enough Protein. I can sip water every few minutes and it leaves my stomach quickly. But Protein Drinks, I can only sip every 15 minutes. today I had about 25 G protein and about 20 ounces Fluid by 1 pm. I am okay until about 2-4 PM. I smell food and it smells delicious and I want it! I so wanted to be one of those people that said they never thought about eating and had to make themselves eat. I'm on full liquids and hVe another week left of full liquids! Suggestions?

The first six weeks really are the hardest. Liquids are not filling so this time is a struggle. Each stage will get easier because the food will have more substance to it. Just remember you are letting your wounds and incisions heal so it is very important you stay on the liquids for the prescribed time. It will get easier. Just hang in there.

As for the hunger, for me it is mental/emotional rather than physical. I am 7 months post-op and still deal with that. If you have physical hunger, hopefully once you are into the soft foods, that will get better.

The one thing I loved during the liquid phase was chicken broth but not the plain stuff. I would get chicken Soup from a local restaurant and strain it. It was only broth when I ate it but it smelled great because of all the seasoning from the stock, chicken, etc. That may help.

Good luck! This is the best thing I have ever done for myself. Stay positive. You are doing great.

Thanks @@imdoingit! just a thought- could it be related to hormonal/PMS? Getting close to that time for me and normally that's my high craving time and insatiable hunger prior to sx.

I won't cheat! I'm too scared! Nothing like holding you to a diet than the thought of messing up your stomach!!!

Jasminew, you may go back and forth between being hungry/looking forward to eating, and then have periods of time where you could take it or leave it. I'm almost 7 weeks out and it goes back and forth for me. When I was on full liquids, I got so sick of them that it was a chore. Then when I was just starting out on semi-solids/soft foods I was always looking forward to it, but the last maybe week or two I mainly eat cuz I have to to hit Protein targets. I've heard it can go back and forth like that. Good luck to you!

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
