RE recommended sleeve but Bariatric surgeon recommended RNY. Help!

Recommended Posts

I had back to back consults with my RE and then the bariatric surgeon the next day. I had my mind made up that I wanted gastric sleeve and my RE thought it was a great idea. When I met with the surgeon, he said I could have whichever one I wanted but he would recommend the RNY due to faster weight loss and more long term studies. Now I'm more confused than ever! I'm having this surgery to get healthy and attempt to have a baby. Been married 10 years with one ectopic 3 years ago- No pregnancies or babies since.

Advice? Why did you decide sleeve over RNY? Did your dr prefer one over the other for fertility?

@ You make the decision that you can live with. I originally thought I was having RNY and my surgeon said sleeve, he said it's just as good as the RNY without the malnutrition I would have to live with and less complications. So see Surgeons all think different so you make your own choice.

I would think a pregnancy post RNY would be more stressful then post VSG. I'm almost 36 weeks pregnant post VSG and I haven't had any malnutrition issues not had the VSG caused me any complications or higher risk.

Good luck however you decide!

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
