I had my sleeve surgery on November 20th 2014 and left the hospital on 11/ 22/ 14. Then on Nov,24th just before i was ready to go to bed, i noticed my blood sugar was low. At that point i did not know how to raise my blood sugar without getting dumping syndrome. Can anyone please tell me how to raise my blood sugar and avoid Dumping syndrome? I am on a phase one liquid diet for 2 weeks, Thank You.

Define low?

They sell glucose gel that you can put on your gum.. Absorbs through the capillary bed.

If you are checking your sugar, though, could be your meds for diabetes?

Talk to your doc.

i have had 2 low blood sugars since my surgery last tuesday. treated the first one with diluted apple juice, got a belly ache from drinking too much/too fast, but better than the alternative. treated the second with chewable glucose tabs which i kept in my mouth until fully dissolved. much better.

@@bajagal101 Mine drop in the hospital a couple times and they gave me OJ. Do you even have dumping syndrome? It's not "that" common With gastric sleeve..are you just scared it could happen? If you haven't had it and you need to raise your sugar do it! Chances are you will be fine

I'm assuming you are diabetic. Type 1 or 2? And what kind of medications are you on? Orals or insulin? When I got home from the hospital, I was told to keep taking metformin and to stop taking my glipizide. But on the metformin my sugar levels were topping out at like 60. Which is pretty low. At my one week post op the surgeon told me to stop taking the metformin.

Also, since you were just sleeved and are on liquids, there is no way for you to know if you will get dumping or not. You might, you might not. I do not. A lot of people do not. But the best thing to do is to ask your surgeon or nutritionist what they would suggest when you see them for your post op visit.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
