Gastric Plication Weight Loss Surgery with LAP-BAND....is this normal?

Recommended Posts

I am on day 7 of my iBand surgery and I have this fairly constant pain in my lower left side from underneath my ribs down to my lower tummy. Last night it felt like something was moving and twisting and it hurt to even walk. Better today, but when I sit or lay a certain way or sometimes when I walk it's a really sharp pain. Normal? Since I have not had a BM and given the horrible gas, could that be the problem? My follow up post op is tomorrow but just kinda worried. Any help on this would be fabulous!

I had a similar situation but always safer to ask your doctor. I finally started taking some Miralax in the mornings which made a tremendous difference for me. I've always had bowel issues so this is helping!

Thanks. I have a feeling this is the reason for the pain but never knew how painful it really was (sharp pain) because I've never really had bowel issues. Thanks for your reply!

I think it's most likely gas pain that gets trapped somewhere in the GI track. If your surgery was recent they also filled your tummy with air. They kind of blow it up like a ballon in order to perform the surgery laparoscopically. That air is pumped out but some of it stays behind.

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
