Question about vitamins

Recommended Posts

So I am still pre op but my doctor wants me to start a Vitamin regimen during my supervised diet to get used to them. My question for everyone is where are some cheaper places to get Vitamins vs. GNC or vitamin stores and still seem to do the job?

Your multi Vitamin needs to be chewable so I use Flintstones children's complete. I take two at a time.

Your Calcium citrate must be chewable I get mine from Celebrate Vitamins.

Your Omega 3 can be in pill form.

Your Vitamin D3 can be in pill form.

If you take Biotin to help with future hair loss I use Biotin Dots from Twin Labs.

The reason you need chewables for certain Vitamins and supplements is because with bypass you don't absorb them properly in pill form.

This is standard information.

Good luck with your future surgery.

You can also take your Vitamins in liquid form or sublingual.

My surgeon request that we take our B12 in sublingual form.

Viactiv is a good source of Calcium and Vitamin D and taste good too-----most drug stores have their own version of it for much cheaper

In the beginning I bought the chewable vitmains & calcium from Unjury/Opurity. They have everything you need. Unfortunately they are really big and I just cant get past the taste of a chewable Vitamin. I was glad I had bought them off a fellow Roux en Y gal so I hadn't paid full price. They ended up going to another gal cause I just couldn't take them.

Wellesse makes a nice liquid vitamin. The flavor is a bit like a 5 hour energy. Not great but not terrible.

After surgery, you may find it difficult to swallow some of the Vitamins especially the large ones, so you may need a pill splitter and pill crusher.

I'm taking the chewable Centrum - got them at Walmart. Quick dissolve B-12 and Biotin I found at Walgreens (they often have buy 1 get 1 free sales on Vitamins and that's when I stock up). I tried the liquid Calcium from Wellesse, but it made me a bit queasy. The calcium chews from Bariatric Advantage are pretty good, but a little pricey. I finally found some lemon flavored chews that another user recommended and ordered them from Amazon - Calcet is the brand name. Those are my favorite - it's like a little lemon dessert after dinner!

I get my Multivitamin caps, Iron (ferrous fumarate) and B-complex liquid from Amazon.com. I get my calcium/vit D from costco.

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
