Stalls and how to deal with them...

Recommended Posts

So, I was 423 at my HW in June of this year...I started the modified liquid diet to lose a few lbs prior to surgery and my SW was 383!!

Now I am 5 weeks out and I am 363 but I have not lost a single lb in three weeks....

I know after years of yo yo dieting with weight watchers that I would gain and lose the same 10 lbs over and over and I always knew why I didn't show any loss in the weekly weigh in, it was always because I would over eat or binge out and I knew it then I would struggle for a couple days to lose what I ate.

With this I am NOT eating anything or binge eating or anything and I am just at a loss for words!!!

I have about 150 lbs to lose still and I cant imagine this being all I am going to lose!

I have heard everyone say that stalls are going to happen and I just never expected it so soon!! How long do they last? is there anything you can do to kick your body back into gear???

Hi Rach8610 - I'm kind of feeling the same as you! I am 4 weeks post-op today, and 23 lbs down, but the scale hasn't moved for several days. It's sort of freaking me out! I don't want to believe this is where it starts getting harder already! I'm following your thread and hoping some veterans will give us some words of wisdom!

Ok, I'm about 9 weeks post op and I've been on these forums with the same concerns and I'm not supposed to tell you this little secret about stalls, but if you promise to keep it low key I guess I can tell you. So, if you are doing what your surgeon told you to do, and you're following your NUT's guidelines and you hit a stall then what you want to do is..........NOTHING!!! You're doing all the right things, its just your body making some serious adjustments to a serious change. Most people will tell you that your body is trying desperately to hang onto those calories, so your metabolism slows down and who knows what else. You're going to wake up one day and drop like 2-3 lbs., take my advice, don't be too concerned with the scale, I only weigh myself once a week. I've hit two stalls since surgery, one at 3 weeks, then about two weeks later I lost 5-6 lbs., then a week after that I stalled again, but when I look at it I'm averaging about 3 lbs./week. I know I'm not eating anywhere near what I ate before, so I know I have to be losing something no matter what that scale says. Relax, this is a journey, not a fad diet that's only going to last a few months, we have to learn to live with our new freind and the sleeve has to learn to live with us. Your doing great, 4lbs./week Rach and navymom 6lbs./wk? I'd say that's pretty good.

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
