Just curious about what everyone's reason was to chose the lapband out of all the other chooses. Please feel free to share. :)

Least invasive surgery with lowest rate of life threatening complications & lowest price (I'm a cash pay).

Can reverse the lap band; my family (primary) physician would not recommend "altering my anatomy"; so, she would NOT recommend the other options.

On a personal level, the only thing I would change is I wish I had the surgery SOONER.

I wanted the lab band, then decided that the gastric sleeve might give slightly better results. My surgeon strongly advised the lap band, based on my health, age and weight. He does all of the popular procedures. But, he makes a sincere effort to advise his patients on what surgery is in their best interest. He doesn't sugar coat the risks, either.

Scared to alter my stomach anatomy. Lap band is least invasive and reversible if I ever had digestive problems in old age or anything g unexpected. Also I didn't know anything about sleeve but once I did, it was also more extreme than I liked. My doc offered sleeve to me but still does lots of bands and encouraged either one for me.

I think you'll find that most of us didn't want 85% of our stomachs removed or have our entire digestive system moved around and re-plumbed. For many of us we would have opted to not have WLS at all if it meant major alterations of our digestive system.

On average the other two major WLS do lose more weight and have slightly fewer complications though. And then there's the eating issues we banders have? But, it's all manageable if one makes the commitment to follow the rules.

But there is one new surgical technique that is still in the review stage that looks promising. It's called endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty. Looks promising and once it's available I would think the band and sleeve will become less popular.

In the beginning, the only surgeries I was ever willing to consider were lap-band and gastric sleeve. I chose lap-band because it was the least invasive, reversible, and less risk of post-op and long-term complications. I really didn't want any of my body parts removed or re-routed. And, if necessary, I knew I could revise to the sleeve later but the reverse is not true. My surgeon and I discussed the options, and his recommendation for me was also the lap-band. I'm so very glad I chose the band too!

Went to support group held by my weight loss group and far too many have had some kind of problem with their sleeve or bypass surgeries. Some were quite serious, one was life threatening. I choose life first and weightloss surgery second. This was waaaay safer and no side effect from accidentally eating a bread crumb.

I'm an engineer.....by definition, an engineer likes to be able to return to the previous version if things don't work out. The Lapband was the only procedure that gave me that option.

I'm pretty much on board with what everyone else here said, but I also wanted to add another thing I liked about it was the adjustable part. Yes, getting in the green can be a pain, but if I am super stressed and can't swallow I can get some taken out and I feel better and can be refilled. You can't do that with the other surgeries!

I also got this surgery because I wanted to get pregnant and I knew the adjustable part would come in hand then as well.

:)

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
