Anybody see this online?? I need to stop doing google searches. I'm starting to get freaked out! Please tell me none of what this guy says is true.

gastricbypasskills.blogspot.com/.../think-...

I don't know if I pasted the link correctly, but his name is fat bastardo.

Sounds to me like he's another obese person trying to scare people about the "dangers" of WLS. Yawn. These people use scare tactics and not real statistics to (for some reason) discourage people from WLS. I've seen it a million times. While all of us are getting healthy and changing our lives for the better, those people will remain on the weight loss roller coaster for the rest of their lives. They also don't understand that this isn't a "quick fix" and we still have to work to get the weight off, we just have a surgical tool to help. Pay them no mind, and continue your path to a happy, healthier you!

Well your link didn't work, but I did a Google search of my own and posts like this make me disinclined to take anythinng he says seriously:

What this blog is also intended to do is to offer alternatives to the butchery that is weight loss surgery. So then, if you are fat and you can't handle being fat and feel as though paying a hacker to butcher you is your only option I offer you some help and tough love from health expert CG Brady.

Many of you have tried diets but you probably didn't try hard and you didn't work smart. Your diet didn't fail. You failed and you failed because you have fattitude. Most fat men will grudgingly admit thet they are gluttons. Women tend to lie about that and a whole lot of other things

I'm just naturally a worry wart, so I'm really getting worried as it gets closer to the date of my surgery. I wish I wasn't like this.

VSG has a lower complication and morbidity rate than knee replacement. Are there risks? Of course. There are risks associated with any surgery. There are risks associated with getting in your car and driving to work in the morning. The question you need to ask yourself is whether the potential benefits outweigh the risks.

Ok first have people died from surgery in the past? Yes. The surgery NOW is safer than a hip replacement (as far as I have seen the official stats). That being said, remember surgery on an obese, especially the super obese person is risky.

That is why it is imperative that people investigate their doctors, and be careful.

Note that this person could do this because they are selling something. I always investigate what someone is tied to. I have no $$$ and no interest and am not related in any way to a group or office. You can't tell if that is true about this person. I've been in a couple of "stings" where I investigated offices who had people masquarading as people who used the product, etc. and it was all a scheme to win their $$$.

Yeah, he kept saying stuff like that throughout his whole article. I just can't get it out of my head, though. :(

The 30-day mortality rate for VSG is 0.08% according to this information:

http://asmbs.org/resources/studies-weigh-in-on-safety-and-effectiveness-of-newer-bariatric-and-metabolic-surgery-procedure

That's less than 1 in 1000 and remember, that 1 in 1000 likely had other health factors and risks, like heart disease, respiratory problems, etc. If you are an otherwise healthy person (aside from being obese) and are not super morbidly obese, your odds of dying are VERY VERY slim.

One other thing - I have a number of problems after the surgery and one it didn't fix. I was hospitalized for malnutrition badly enough I got told I ws going to die. I still tell people get the surgery.

Because 98.5% of people have no problem and the biggest issue they have is weight gain. I would rather enjoy the quality of life that I had in swimming, running, etc. and the memories of that then sitting on my can doing nothing. I don't regret the surgery. If I can say that, isn't giving your life and health worth the chance? My stuff is rare and I had GI problems to begin with.

If you can get the surgery DO IT! It is worth it.

Thanks. I have read that article and it always makes me feel better. I should be ok. I don't have any major health problems like diabetes or high blood pressure. I am following my pre-op diet like its life or death. I've lost 15 pounds in a week so far! :) And my doctor performs at a center of excellence and had done about 2000 surgeries with no deaths. I just need to keep reminding myself of this and stop thinking about the negative.

akflatt, you need to stay off the Internet if you're that easily frightened.

Seriously, that dude is one sick creep. He's famous for his hate speech. Did you dig deep enough to read what he calls people who are obese and overweight? How about this: "You fat pig. You're disgusting. No one will ever want to fuck you. You eat **** all long, never get your fat ass off the couch, and you never will. Why don't you just kill yourself now?"

THAT's whom you're taking advice from?

The "research" he cites is old, wrong, twisted by him and, in some cases, fabricated by him.

Go read www.asmbs.org. That's a site that cites facts that are actually true.

His moniker should be "Mean ol' rotten Hateful Fat Bastardo". Maybe then, more people wouldn't take his advice. Yeah, what a creep!

Please, run in the opposite direction as fast as you can.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
