I had my surgery July 15 2014 (with the surprise addition of a hiatal hernia surgery) in Mexico and all seemed well, I initially felt the hernia part was harder to recover from than the sleeve! I have since struggled with getting any more than 4 glasses of Water in a day and 1 oz of food per meal. 1 month in and I suffered from dehydration and exhaustion (how could I not, with what I was eating) I was off work for a week and got myself eating more Protein & drinking better (still max 5 glasses a day) Now 2 months later and I have horrible reflux!!! This past 2 months I have been sick in some way or another, have missed too much work and I feel horrible that my kids are used to seeing mommy with her head in a bucket waiting to vomit...... I can't eat any less, can't eat any slower, can't chew any more and don't know what I am doing wrong. All this has left me depressed and listless, I don't want to go anywhere, have lost any sense of joy in food or life and just don't see the point anymore..... Yes, I have lost 60 lbs which is awesome (not that one person in my life has noticed !!) but I basically feel awful all the time. I took zantac for the reflux this weekend and it worked but left me home from work today with a Migraine (great) yesterday I spent on the couch with a heating pad do to gas pains in my back..... it is always something !!! today I am going to take advantage of being home alone and focus on drinking and eating 3 meals + a snack or 2 in hopes that good fluids & nutrition will help my mind and body.. I would love some advice, will this get better? or is this life now? I went to a family reunion and had to hide the fact that I ate basically nothing and spend time quietly in the corner burping and focusing on not vomiting. This can't be life now? is it ? all help would be appreciated, I am a generally happy outgoing person and this depression and lack of interest in life is taking its toll.

Thanks to all.

I am so sorry to hear that your having all that problem, since you had the surgery in Mexico maybe you need to call your family doctor to get a prescription for nexium, Prevacid, something to help with the reflux. I had a hiatal hernia repair to and was given prevacid for it. It help I still not able to eat like I should but it will take time. I will be praying that you get better and congrats on losing 60 lbs.

@@sherripark, i'm so sorry to hear about the rough time you are having! *HUGS*

i think your attitude is awesome, really... "today I am going to take advantage of being home alone and focus on drinking and eating 3 meals + a snack or 2 in hopes that good fluids & nutrition will help my mind and body.." that's a great plan.

i've read that losing a lot of weight quickly releases a lot of hormones, so your depression could just be from that, which means temporary. however, from someone who deals with depression, please consider seeing a therapist. even short term, it helps to have someone to talk to who will be totally non-judgemental.

i agree that you do need to find someone to follow up with locally about your surgery. i would be stressed personally if i wasn't feeling well and the surgeon was in another country.

keep posting and reading on this site, you will learn a lot, and at the least, get a lot of commiseration! congrats on your weight loss, that's fabulous.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
