6 fills later...

Recommended Posts

I had six fills and was up to around 7 in my band with still no restriction, no stuck episodes, hunger immediately after eating, etc. Each time I would go in to the office they would give me very small amounts (.3, .6, 1). I started with 3-4 in the band at surgery. After a year and only 15 lbs lost I had basically given up and stopped going in for 6 months. I went in this month and asked for an X-ray. Sure enough, band was loose and the nurse only pulled 4 out of my band. She added a full 2 and now I finally feel like there's a difference. What could have happened? The nurse said she's not concerned about a leak... But where would the Fluid be? How could the numbers be so off? Any advice appreciated.

Who knows but monitor your restriction so you don't get too tight. This clinic sounds like they're a little disconnected to me? One of the ways my doctor measured Fluid in my band is when the band had a lot of Fluid in it, he could feel that it took more pressure to squeeze the syringe. In his words, he could feel the stomach lining pushing back against the balloon in my band. He even showed me. When he would push down on the syringe and saline entered my band, some fluid would come back and push the syringe handle back up.

Of course, over the next month my stomach adjusted to the fill and he was able to put another .5 CC in to take me to the green zone. Sorry, this probably doesn't help much but there are ways other than an X-Ray to know if the band balloon is pushing on your stomach.

suggestion to all that are going in for fills. have whomever is doing the fill check how much Fluid is in your band. it takes seconds for a withdraw.

Watch your restriction and when you go in for fills have them withdraw all Fluid to make sure the amount matches. I was having fills and would have a short time of restriction.....8 long months later we found a leak in my tubing.

The question I'd ask is how much Fluid was supposed to be in the band before they removed and verified that there were only 4 cc in the band?

You stated you started 4 cc in the band after surgery, and had more injections afterwards. Something is not adding up!

I was supposed to have approx 7 in the band and only 4 came out. She said that it was probably not a leak... I'm just wondering what else could make Fluid disappear. Who knows! Hope this time it stays in.

Hoping you find that this fill, USING FLUOROSCOPY, will be the one that provides you with satisfaction. There could be many reasons the Fluid numbers don't add up...possibly there wasn't ever as much in there as they thought to begin with, maybe she didn't get it all removed during this latest fill, maybe one or some of the other adjustments missed the port, etc, etc.

One thing is for sure, they SEEN your band wasn't correctly adjusted, instead of just guessing this time. I wish everybody had that option......

Best wishes! :)

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
