Special K protein shakes

Recommended Posts

I had the sleeve on May 23,2014. I'm not getting all the Protein I should have. I started drinking the Special K Protein Shakes but I don't know if it is any good for me. It has 18g of sugar in it and 10 g protein. I would love to hear any suggestions that can help me

18g of sugar is way too much. My nutritionist recommends no more than 7g of sugar with anything that I consume. I drink EAS AdantEdge Carb Control shakes. 17g Protein. 100 calories. 2.5g fat. 0g sugar. 3g of carbs. The chocolate fudge is my favorite flavor. I buy mine in bulk from BJ's, but they do carry them at Target or Walmart so you can try the different flavors.

Keep in mind 1 TEASPOON of sugar = 5 GRAMS. So 18 grams would be about 3.6 teaspoons of sugar.

Again that is way too much sugar. I buy mine at SAM's club I get my Protein shakes there. The are 30grams of Protein and only 1 gram of sugar. They have vanilla, crème strawberry and chocolate which is my favorite. Try looking for them there.

Brand name is Premier Protein and bones has energy for everyday. I love them. premierprotein.com for info.

Good luck!

I agree with everyone. My NUT suggest that the sugars should be below 5 grams. I was drinking my mother's shakes called Premier Protein; sugar 1g, carbs 5g, Protein is 30! and the calories are 160.

You also have the Atkin's shakes: calories 160, sugars 1g, carbs 6 and the Protein is 15. I tried both of these shakes and I really like them.

Pure Protein is good as well. I hope this helps.

There are many good Protein drinks - but look for low carb/low sugar, modest calories for the Protein.< /p>

I like Premier Protein (Costco!) which are 30g protein/4-5G of carbs and about 160 calories. A good powder is Syntrax nectar which are uber low carbs, about 100 calories and 20g protein. I would look for ones with similiar stats and really limit the bars - too much carbs for the protein amount!

I haven't had my surgery yet, but have been using the powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury Protein powders to increase my Protein intake to 100 grams/day as recommended by the bariatric doctor to lose weight. Each serving is 21 grams protein, 100 calories, and only 4 carbs. Go to their website and read the reviews; that's what really sold me on the product, including their return policy if you don't like it. I have used all the flavors regularly except for the cheese which I've tried once and added it to a prepared dish. Having the chicken Soup option is nice since the cold, sweet drinks get boring after awhile. The strawberry sorbet mixed with lemonade is a nice change, too.

During the weight loss stage the Special K shakes have way too much sugars and calories for only 10G Protein. Down the road when you hit goal and move to maintenance, these probably would be acceptable.

As others have said, Premier Protein shakes are probably the best premixed shakes. I have been using them for months now. But if you have the patients and time to mix your own, there are many other great brands.

I personally and not really a shake kinda person but I found I like the Isopure drinks over the Syntrax Nectars. They are liquid so none of the power sitting in the bottom or hard to mix without leaving foam on top. The blue raspberry is very similar to kool-aid in fact I've been adding Water to kinda tame it down a bit. Poured over ice it's not bad.

I agree, Isopure is one of the best source of Protein. You can get them in clear form in a ton of different flavors. If you order online in bulk, you get the best prices. They are ready to drink. They taste like Gatorade. They are 40gm and 160 calories. These are good for when you work. You can sip them throughout the day and concentrated source. They make powders as well. You can add the unflavored one to almost anything and increase your protein intake.

after surgery I discovered I could no long stand the smell or taste of chocolate, and strawberry makes me ill. Thankfully I was able to find a Protein Shake that is an iced coffee that I still drink to this day that has 20 grams of Protein and only 2 grams of sugar. I also have found one that is a cake batter flavor that has 22 grams of protein and 2 grams of sugar. Chike is the coffee one and the other is Protein Milkshake Bar

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
