Does anyone regret it?

Recommended Posts

I had a very painful 10 days after surgery, but I don't regret any of it. I'm down 140 lbs in 15 months. And I almost feel like a normal person. :-) I would do it all over again in a minute. I just wish I could have had it done at 20 instead of 46. Good luck with your recover. I does get better, it just takes time.

No, I do not regret my decision. I feel better than I have for the last 20+ years. I'm sorry to hear you are having a difficult time. Try to be patient, you are still healing from major surgery.

It will get better. Good luck to you and keep us informed on your progress.

At one month I was wondering what the hell I had done to myself! It took until 6 weeks post op for me to feel clear headed and able to handle basic life tasks. 8 weeks before I went back to work. It got a lot better after the first month!

I found it was a delicate balance between amount of Protein, Water and overall calories. When I ate only 650 calories per day I felt like crap the next day. I upped my calories to 850 - 1000 and felt SO much better. Obviously you need to talk with your doctor before changing anything from their instructions.

Don't worry when you start seeing the pounds vanishing and you feel a bit better you will be happy you made this decision!

Good luck!

Yes, I have my times of regret. Mostly because at over 8 weeks out, I still cannot eat anything other than my Protein shakes - I get horribly sick/nausea with even a small taste of any other type of food. So yes, I do regret it at times. However those times are short as I remember how horrible I felt and how much better I feel other than digestive issues and I've only lost 37.5 lbs. thus far. I noticed my ability to breathe and do physical movement was so much easier with the first 20 lbs. I lost and it keeps getting better. I do wish I could eat Soup or something other than Protein Shakes. Try to remember as others have said, you (and I) are recovering from major surgery AND a major change to our body's way of handling food. It will take time. I have a list of questions for my f/u appointment with my surgeon next week. Hang on, I have faith it will improve.

I'm sorry to hear you are having a tough recovery! If you tell us some of the specific problems you are having, maybe we can help. And I agree with the suggestion to call your doctor if things don't get better! I am almost 3 weeks out and I can't say I have had any moments of regret except that I didn't do it sooner!

Thanks. Everyone

The reason I regret it is because my recovery has been hard I have nausea gagging headaches dehydration. I've had x rays and other stuff done. I'm having another cray done Thursday to see what's causing my gagging. Everyday. Protein shakes me nausea. And gag.

For the nausea and dehydration, I suggest keeping ice chips on hand at all times. It will help fight dehydration and won't cause nausea if you eat them slowly one at a time. Drinking Water can cause nausea and I have a constant problem with it. Ice chips are my best friend and saving me from dehydration. And I am real glad to hear you are working with your doctor to find an answer to the problems you are having.

I'm 20 years old 1 month out. I'm having the worst recovery ever and I regret the surgery everyday.

7 days after my surgery I lost 2 units of blood in my sleep, 6mo later I finally had the strength to walk to the mail box. It was the worst 6-7mo of my life... No I wouldn't go back if I could. It gets better.

The first thing I said to my mom when I came out from under anesthesia was "why the hell did you let me do this, I feel like I'm dying", 7 months later I would do it every day if I had to. Don't regret it at all. It gets better, and you'll feel better.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
