Intractable and severe Pain in the Feet ?

Recommended Posts

I started getting cramps at the bottoms of my feet ONLY at night about 2 weeks post-surgery. The only way to "uncramp" them is to get out of bed and walk around. It happens several times in the course of the night. My blood tests came back OK. My dr. told me to take 2 magnesium pills and eat a banana before bed. It doesn't help a bit. Any ideas?

Me too!

thanks... I went to see a neurologist and had an EMG study that was normal....he took a biopy of the nerves in three areas of the leg....that information will come back in two weeks,, taking neurontin that helps a little for the neuropathy..... in lots of pain...burning feet...pins and needles.... I took an MRI yesterday....it shows that I have 4 bulging discs in the lower thorasic level and lumbar level....I will have another MRI on the upper level....perhpas, I was too intense working out in the gym??? IT also could be som mal absorbsion issues.....? I took blood tests this morning......taking oral vitamins...,,,,hope that you all are doing well......

YEs,taking vitamins.....and they gave me a form of neurontin....for the discomfort.....it does not help....lots of burning in my feet......will have an EMG study next week....to see if nerves are involved..?hope that this could be corrected with Vitamin and mineral treatment.....surgery went very well.....

Hey just checking if you have found anything out as yet....I had surgery in May 2013 and I have not had any complications but I started having some leg burning about 2 weeks ago I was told it could be because of kickboxing that I had just started also my red blood levels were low which could be another cause.

Hi...I am still in the process of finding out what I am dealing with.....I have been reading lots of medical information.....there might be some mal absorbtion of vitamins...? ie: B12, B1 etc.....the bloodtests will show more...I took a specific bloodtest called the Shilling test....tests more intricately for B12 absorbtion...I also had an MRI of my lumbar back and what yeilded was that I have some bulging discs in the lumbar are and thorasic area of the spine....perhaps, much too much working out in thhe gym? There might be several things going on at the same time.....I have been miserable with the burning pain in the feet....no sleep....I suppose that it takes time..... I will see a good neurologist and a gastroenterologist.....my surgery was fine....I already lost 121 pounds since July......I hope that you get to feel better soon....

A year before I had the sleeve surgery I had the horrible burning pain in both feet. Doctor put me on Lyrica. Also on Metformin for diabetes even though he said not related (I disagree). Lyrica and a BP med caused my toes to swell and blister like they were burned. Hardly left the house for a month. Came off the meds, had the sleeve, and two weeks later no more pain and burning in my feet. I think we need to be proactive as possible and share these symptoms and problems. Maybe we can diagnose ourselves! Even when I got gout after the sleeve, I went through hell trying to figure out treatment and meds for a month. Very scary, and another month off my feet. Best wishes everyone.

Hi, are you diabetic? It could be neuropathy (nerve damage) which I have also in my feet. What meds has your GP prescribed? Has your GP mentioned the possibility of it being neuropathy? High sugar levels over a long period of time can cause this. Try not to panic until you get your results.

I have the VSG in July and have lost 120 pounds......however, two weeks ago...I started to get SEVERE and BURING PAIN in my FEET.....do I have issues with Vitamins....missing nutrients.....?anyone ever have that experience .....?The doctor gave me some meds...that do not help....cannot sleep.......?

Did you have your parathyroid checked. Your Calcium being off will cause tingling and burning with numbness. Try taking chewable Calcium with a little orange juice and some magnesium citrate an hour before bed. The magnesium has a relaxing effect on muscles and tendons. And the calcium is absorbed as a catalyst with the natural Vitamin C in the juice.< /p>

I costantly have feet burning and in so much pain I'm usually crying by the time I get home from a shift at the hospital. What I do for my feet is take frozen Water bottles and put one under each foot and sit and roll them back and forth for about 30 mins. Helps my feet tons

Your feet have 26 bones, 33 joints, and more than 100 tendons, ligaments, and muscles that support your whole body. Being obese seriously damages your feet. Having a gastric sleeve does not cause foot pain.

After having gastric surgery you will lose a lot of weight. Some of this weight lost will be muscle, because at first we can't eat properly. This can also have a bad effect your tendons.

This is why everyone should be taking the very best care of themselves with strengthening exercises, good footwear, and a heathy diet.

I can only suggest anyone and everyone with foot pain visit their doctor or podiatrist.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
