RNY P.C.O.S, & Pregnacy

There is an article from the national institute of health that researched pcos and the different weight loss options. It stated that roux en y is the best procedure for the treatment of pcos and should be considered one of the first line treatments. They suspect that it has to do with the bypassing of the first part of bowel. The second surgery to prove results was the lap band and then they shared that the sleeve did not do much to help pcos. I chose the roux en y because of the research, metformin was NOT doing a darn thing to help my insulin resistance and I want kids in the future so I felt this was my best option. I can't wait for my next round of labs from my endocrinologist to see the results I surgery!! Good luck to you all!

Did you already have surgery and if so did they take you off metformin? I'm currently on it and I have surgery in a little over 3 weeks. I'm just curious :)

I also had POCS and the gastric bypass. My husband and I never worried about birth control because of my condition. I am 10 months post-op and 11 week pregnant. I know you are supposed to wait, but we weren't actually trying...lol. My bariatric doc said I should be okay since I have been eating really well. It's very exciting, I have never been pregnant before and never thought that I would be able to conceive a child. Gastric bypass surgery changed my whole life. I'm healthier and happier and about to be a mom. If your girlfriend is struggling with her health I would definitely recommend the bypass. Good luck!

Hello everyone,

I'm new here. I too have suffered from PCOS (officially diagnosed at 21) and infertility. I am in the pre-op stage, 35 (soon to be 36), and getting married in August 2016. My fiancé and I have been sexually active for about 10 years, with no successful pregnancies. I finally made the decision to get weight loss surgery this year. I had the same questions about fertility. This thread gives me hope! Thanks everyone for sharing!

I was diagnosed with PCOS at 16 years old. At 24 I was told I would only have a slight shot of having children and only with IVF (which I could never afford) at 31 I went to a seminar for weight loss surgery after hearing there was a chance it could "help" my PCOS. Well at the seminar the surgeon said gastric bypass (not band or sleeve) had a 99% CURE rate. Yes cure. I'm sitting here a year and a half after my surgery holding my two month old beautiful healthy son. After a healthy and happy natural pregnancy and birth. Good luck. :)

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
