If there was a Class Action Lawsuit against the band....

I looked into it a little bit but must of those active suits I checked into weren't accepting new clients. Not only did I experience a lot of pain with Lapband but I had 2 additional surgeries to take care of it and mountains of medical bills. My insurance only covered my 2nd and 3rd surgeries at 50%.

This is a tough one. The band was the only surgery offered in town so of course me and many others jumped at the opportunity. I was fortunate to only have been banded a year. The new surgeon at the clinic dislikes the band and encouraged the sleeve. I had complications with the band as we all did (not being able to eat, constant throwing up). I did have scar tissue once it was removed. This caused discomfort while I'd chew for about 6 months after removal. I feel better now and am in love with my sleeve.

Had I had the band longer, I may consider joining a potential lawsuit. However...I was blessed my insurance covered the revision. I woulnd't mind the $2500 I paid for the band.

Had I not been insured and had to pay for the fills out of pocket, oh you betcha I'd join! The fills were the worst part, trying to find that damn non existant green zone!!

I'm sorry for those of you who had so many complications :( I"m glad the sleeve is working better and you are moving on with your life! The band truly was a miserable tool

No doubt about the high residual costs in maintaining a band. What most people don't realize is that the band was never designed to be permanent. Yep you heard me right. Were you told this? Me neither. Such a high failure rate. Imagine the backlash if pace makers failed at the same rate???????

I till have the piece of paper my surgen had me sign in 2001 notifying me it was intended to be temporary. That was Germaany 2001 right before fda approval.

I work with several folks who had issues with their bands and had to have them removed and had the sleeve done. That made my choice for me. I got sleeved on the 7th. As I am reading the issues, I am so thankful I didn't change my mind. Bless you all that are having issues.

Do you think we will be having this same discussion about the sleeve in 5, 10, 15 years? After all, the sleeve is also a fairly young procedure.

Sealegs, your question is what scares me into not committing. For years we researched the band and now we are researching the sleeve because of all the band problems. When we started researching the band it was all great results reviews, but now we know people who have had personal failures and medical problems with it. Hindsight is always 20/20 and I guess time will tell.

Doesn't the Duodenal Switch involve making the stomach into the sleeve? I believe this has been around for quite some time now? At least longer than the band has been around. I can't wait to have my band removed and have my revision!

I want in on a Class Action Lawsuit!!! I have been seeking an Attorney for 1 1/2 years and cannot find one to help. I have all of my documentation along with pictures. Here's My Story. There are thousands of people like me that have the same medical problems that I have' date=' problems that will NEVER go away, side effects that we were NEVER warned about. We all had Lap Band surgery to lose weight but what we received instead is a medical nightmare that changed our lives forever. Lap Band installed 07, vomiting and pain began immediately thought it was normal. Started going to Doctors and hospitals nothing found, then the diarrhea started, again Doctors and hospitals, colonoscopy and endoscopy 01/2012 (date of discovery) found lap band had eroded into my stomach. Lap Band removed 01/2012, very ill, still pain, vomiting and diarrhea. Constant vomiting caused a hernia so another surgery to repair hernia 11/2012. Still pain, vomiting diarrhea continually going to Doctors and hospitals, specialist does another endoscopy 07/08/2013 and finds major problems where my stomach was repaired, sends me to a surgeon immediately because he was so worried, saw surgeon within two days on 07/10/2013. Surgeon did his own endoscopy 07/22/2013, told me the lap band did a number on my stomach and he could not do the repair said I needed to see him in his office 07/26/2013 so he can go over alternatives with me. I am still vomiting and have diarrhea more times a day than I can count and the pain is severe. My Surgeon is a Bariatric Specialist and he no longer does Lap Band Surgery because of the damage Lap Bands do. He would make a great witness on my behalf. I go nowhere except to Doctors and Hospitals, when I do I take a bag that consists of trash bags, paper towels, baby wipes, Water and a change of clothes. I vomit and have blasting diarrhea EVERY TIME I eat anything. I am single but cannot date; my boyfriend broke up with me because he could no longer handle my illness. My life has changed so much. Sometimes I crawl from the bed to the toilet several times a day, sometimes I make it sometimes not. I have vomited and had diarrhea while in the car and in the presents of others. A couple of months ago I was so sick that I was on a gurney at the hospital the vomiting and diarrhea would not stop and a hospital employee made the comment "disgusting she crapped all over herself". The pain is like having hundreds of hot knives cutting into my stomach. I have so many scars it is embarrassing, I will never be able to take my clothes off in front of anyone again. This is a small list of what I have been through and there are others just like me and some are worse like losing their eye sight. I have all of my documentation along with pictures to back up my story. I feel the Doctor was negligent because he never warned me of these possible side effects and the danger. The Lap Band was defective because it eroded into my stomach. My life will never be the same and my health will never be restored. I may need surgery to completly replace my stomach and or a feeding tube. I have lost 20+ pounds after the Lap Band was removed because of vomiting and diarrhea, not because of the Lap Band. I also got an infection while in the hospital.[/quote']

I'm so sorry you had to go through this. Hopefully a doctor can do something to try to repair it. The best decision I ever made was to remove my band. I was completely miserable for a couple years and always in pain. Good luck to you.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
