New with at least 200 lbs to lose

Recommended Posts

Hi! I'm just getting started. I have my first appointment with the surgeon on June 17th. I am not really sure what I weigh any more. My scales are not able to go up that high. I am so excited to get this started but dread the first weigh in. It's ok though because I know it is only a number and one I plan on changing.

I'm learning a lot from this forum and I am feeling pretty confident that the sleeve is right for me. Hopefully the doctor will agree so I can begin doing whatever pre-surgery things he requires of me.

I'm glad to be part of the forum and look forward to learning more from you guys.

Shelle

Just take it day by day...you may want to look at your journey as only having to lose 5 or 10 lbs instead of looking at it as 200..it will help keep you motivated even after the sleeve.

Best of luck to you!

At least your being realistic.. at my heaviest of 360 I kept thinking I'm about a hundred pounds overweight... UH.. I'm only 5'5".. I had 210 pounds to lose but was in denial!!! Getting that number will be very empowering for you because you'll then know EXACTLY where you stand. I'm so happy for you starting this exciting journey.

Hi Shelle! I'm Tara and I'm new here, too. I have a surgery date of July 15th (which is just about a year after I first started the pre-op requirement process, but apparently mine was more lengthy than most :)). I also have a lot to lose, but know that we can do it if we take it one step at a time and keep coming back to the forums for information and support :)

Hi!! I'm Sara and I started my journey with 200 to lose as well. My surgery was Jan. 5 and I'm down 130. Pre op I looked at this number as super daunting and unattainable but it took a little faith to book my surgery thinking, well I have to do something. Not one second post op did it even occur to me I won't eventually hit my goal. I know that with this tool and the determination that was needed to get through the first month that I can reach it! It's hard to believe pre op, for me it wasn't until after my surgery that I knew I made the right decision. I still weigh more than some people's start weights but now it's not just a number, it's a lifestyle. I'm sending positive vibes your way and know that many others have walked in a similar path. Congratulations on making a decision for YOU!

Wow, Sara - you are doing awesome!!! Congratulations and way to go :) Thanks for your kind words of encouragement; it took me a really long time to arrive at my decision, but I'm glad I finally did and am looking forward to taking the next steps. I'm sure I'll have some jitters in the next few weeks, but ultimately I know this is the right path. Keep up the great work and I'll look forward to following your progress!

My surgery is set for July 13th!! I'm so excited and I've felt so positive but recently I'm feeling worried... When I first started this journey I was researching the different weight loss surgeries and finally decided the sleeve was going to be the best one for me considering I had at least 180lbs to loose!! I was able to get in contact with several people that had this surgery and wow their outcomes were all awesome!!! Within 5-6 months they had all lost 125 + lbs. each so of course when one particular lady was so close to my stats (age, weight, height, etc) told me about her journey and she lost 165 lbs in 6 months I was ecstatic!! However since I've joined this app/group I'm noticing its not very common for that type of weight loss, or at least not on here... most I'm seeing don't even loose 100 lbs by the 5 month mark and so it's got me worried, especially when I see posts saying in 5 months only 50lbs has been lost.. I'm hoping the posts I'm reading are people that may not have as much to loose but I'm starting to worry.. I know me.. and I'm needing a dramatic loss in these first few months so I can get to the point I can actually "do" things! I know this is not a miracle working surgery but I'm not having this to just pass the time away, it's a surgery that is supposed to be dramatic and help you loose more weight at a faster pace...

PLEASE don't take me as being negative in anyway against anyone... I'm here for answers and support just like everyone else, I don't have a family member interested enough to even talk to me about this so I'm pretty much on my own here...

Yes, I think I understand what you're saying. I also have a lot to lose, and many of us who have more weight to lose to begin with see more dramatic weight loss in the beginning. However, I think you touched on something very important: the surgery will not magically fix everything and it does require a lifetime commitment on our part. It's not a diet, it's agreeing to embrace a different lifestyle. We didn't get like this overnight and we're not going to lose it overnight, which actually is a good thing, since sustainable changes over time is what leads to success long term. We all need something to keep us motivated, and the weight loss will definitely be a big motivator, but just remember that there will be times when you are frustrated. You can't throw in the towel, but you can come here where we will be waiting to support you, and you can support us, too :) Be comfortable with and committed to your decision, and you will accomplish great things!

Thank you!!!! I do know this is a life changing thing! Lol it's funny how I've been shopping for exercise equipment and getting excited over it!! I love the feeling I have it my gut and I haven't even had my surgery yet :)

I am ready to change, my only fear is the fact that I have gotten to a point that I cannot even go to the park with my kids without having to find a place to sit down and oh I sweat like a Water faucet is running over my head! Of course I seem to only sweat bad on my face, neck and hair so I always look awful! I can remember back 6 years ago I was around 200-220 and I remember how much better I felt then but I was still fat but not near as bad as I am now! I'm at 340 lbs, 35 years old (come November) and 5 ft 8 in tall it's crazy that I let myself get to this point!!!! I haven't always been overweight but it's been a good 10-11 years since I've seen 160 and under! Cant wait to see it again!!!!

Yes we need to keep in touch for sure! My surgery is July 13th and I'll be starting my pre op liquid diet this week! I am nervous about it just bc it's summer and the kids are home from school so they all have to eat good stuff and I have to fix it all!! I'll have to figure out how to private message you my email address...

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
