The minimum number I've heard is 64 ounces per day. You should also be working toward getting in your 70 grams of Protein per day, although that's tougher in the early post-op stages.

How do you know that you are low on potassium? If it's from a lab test, your doctor should be able to tell you how s/he wants you to supplement. There are tons of ways to add some potassium, from liquid/pill Vitamins to foods. Bananas have a good bit and work well blended into a shake if you're on full liquids. Orange juice also has some, but my doc doesn't allow citrus juices until much later because it can create acid problems in the sleeve.

Good luck on your journey!! :)

I am 1 week today. My Dr told me at least 48 oz fluids, and try to get 60g Protein. I use Powerade zero. I am also taking liquid Multivitamin and 2 calcium chews, along with 2 prevacid (open capsules and put into spoonful of low cal yogurt). My Dr used a 40 bougie so I am not having vomiting issues. When I feel full, I get a tightness in my chect or I feel I have to burp. I am also eating chicken bouillon, protein vials, Protein Shakes, creamy Soups strained, high protein pudding, and I made low cal ice cream in my Ninja (skim milk, frozen strawberries, raspberry extract or substituting frozen peaches and peach crystal lite for peach ice cream and pulse it until it turns into a soft ice cream consistency-maybe 30 sec). i find it easier to have warm liquids- but the ice cream is a treat, so I feel like I 'm not suffering. I can only have a few oz of it at a time though).

My doctor says if i am not getting in at least 32 oz a day I need to go back in for fluids and rehydration. He would like anywhere from 48 to 64 but as he put it in the early post op stage 32 is the key number. Every docnis different though. When I get full...I am not really sure how to tell either but when I get tightness and burp which comes with a pain in my left shoulder I stop. My doc allows sugar free power aid or Gatorade. He also counts all fluids you intake into the total, broth Popsicles, etc.

Good luck and keep us updated!

Powerade Zero has been my best friend since surgery. Sobe 0 has also been good. Crystal light, not so much. I was instructed to take my Vitamins starting on day 5 or so. They were chewables at the time, but I took small pills since the second night. I am surprised (shocked actually) that you were not given this information before discharge. Glad you posted the question!

I would say that your Water intake is based on you body, i am a larger guy so my doctor advised to get at least 100 oz a day. i was getting down around the recommended 60 oz but i had to go back to the hospital for dehydration 3 days after leaving the hospital. i would say get as much as you can. i dont think you can really get " to much" water"

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
