Would it help to add some splenda? Or may mix the lemon and iced tea together for a lemony-tea?

Did you buy sample sizes?

I bought sample sizes, and I tried mixing in some Lemon Tea crystal light. I'm out of Splenda, but it's not that it's missing a sweetness. It's just a weird flavor. The flavor is Lemon Tea, and you can definitely taste the lemon. It left a film on the interior of the cup, and in my mouth.

I ended up only drinking half of it. I just couldn't stomach anymore of it. I tried really hard to drink, but it was bad and I didn't want to risk getting nauseated.

yuk on the film

And I know what you mean about not being able to drink it and not wanting to get sick ... been there, done that.

I ordered a bunch of samples of the Syntrax nectar from Vitalady.com (Thanks Mac). I need something that I can mix in Water. I won't drink milk, it's not a lactose thing, it's milk/ice cream/shakes/malts etc etc are all way too heavy for me even when I was not banded, I can't imagine trying to consume thick stuff now. I've never liked the "heaviness/thickness" of milk.

I bit the bullet today and ordered several samples from Vitalady.com (thanks Mac for telling Tiffy about this site). I figured with Bob's upcoming surgery, he's going to need Protein to keep his mind less fuzzy so he can work and we might as well know ahead of time whether he'll like them or not. Plus, I figure it can't hurt me to have at least one form of liquid Protein I can tolerate. Not sure how long it will take to get them. However, like Tiff will post how they taste.

I'm having the nectar caribbean cooler flavor, and it is amazing. It's tastes like a Pina Colada. It mixed extremely well with Water, and goes down extremely smoothly. It is sweet, but is not super, sticky sweet. It has no Protein powder smell or taste either.

I will probably order this one as my primary choice because it is the best thus far.

This one gets 5 out of 5 stars from me.

3 out of 5 stars. It's good, but it has a hint of Protein powder taste. I just mix them with filtered tap Water, I don't blend, mix, shake. I made the mistake of trying to blend the half of the fuzzy navel, and it got foamy/frothy and I couldn't drink it. I had to let it sit for a couple of hours before I could finish it.

The samples from vitalady.com are 1.5 scoops, 135 calories, and 34.5 grm Protein.< /span>

I orderd 2 of each -- caribbean cooler, Twisted cherry, Cappucino, Fuzzy Navel, Roadside Lemonade, strawberry Kiwi, Unflavored, chocolate truffle, strawberry mousse and vanilla bean torte (the last 3 from the nectar Sweets collection).

I ordered 2 of each as well. I didn't go for any of the sweets because I'm not a sweet type of person. I really want to try the cappucino in a cup of coffee. But, since coffee is a diuretic, I don't want to challenge my hydration levels. I'm only getting in 48-52oz a day, and I really need to bump it up, but it's been challenging.

Also, I'm mixing mine with at least 16oz of Water to really dilute the mix. I actually mixed the cooler flavor today in 20oz. of Water.< /span>

That's good to know about the ratio. I find those lipton tea mixes, crystal light, etc too sweet for one bottle of water, so I usually mix 1 to 1-1/2 to at least 24 oz of water. I got the sweets mostly for Bob as he seems to have quite a sweet tooth. Me, not so at all since the surgery. Thought the unflavored would be good for Soups and such ... provided it truly is unflavored and doesn't smell like s**t.

Maybe the cappucino will be good without coffee? I'm drinking a little coffee these days -- but only about 1/4 of a cup. Like everything else, it just doesn't taste the same to me.

Nectar Crystal Sky flavor too proteiny tasting for me. It mixes well in Water, and turns blue. It smells a little proteiny to me as well. Not going to be able to finish this one.

nectar Cappucino flavor is very good. I was going to mix in some coffee, but it's not needed. Mixed extremely well in Water, not gritty, has a nice coffee taste, and just enough sweet to make it tasty. Not proteiny tasting or smelling.

5 out of 5 stars

All my stuff came in today.

I decided to try the Fuzzy Navel flavor first, and I must say that's not bad at all, and taste pretty good. I bet it would be good blended with a little ice for some texture, or a slushie type drink. I'm just not a fan of super cold stuff. Not gritty, it mixed well in 16oz of Water. It's not too sweet either. It doesn't have a "baby formula, Protein mix smell".

1.5 scoops

34.5 grams of Protein

135 Calories

I tried both the nectar Fuzzy Navel (for Breakfast this morning) and the nectar Sweets vanilla Bean Torte (for dessert this evening) and loved them both. The Fuzzy Navel is light and refreshing. I added 8 ounces Water plus 6-7 ice cubes to make it not quite as sweet and really cold. I used 8 oz skim milk with the vanilla bean torte and about 6-7 ice cubes. Quite a treat. I had ordered the sampler pack from Syntrax directly. Call 1-866-333-7403 and ask for customer service (they close at 5pm cst). You can place an order for 10 different flavors of single serve samples for $9.99 (shipping included). :001_tongue:

That's good information! Avoid the middle man and get a good deal with shipping included.

Thanks everyone for keeping up with this. I think this will be a good thread for new people getting the sleeve!

Someone from LBT posted this information a while back. I found it while surfing their threads. I called it last week and got 10 full serving packets (one of each flavor) for $9.99. Great way to see if you like it at all and which flavor(s) you prefer. The choices are a bit overwhelming. Also, it is one sample pack per person but you can order for different people in the same household.

I have to agree with Tiffykins on the Crystal Sky flavor, not my favorite.

So I guess after gastric bypass surgery, I cant eat flock chips because they are fried???  They sell them on here so I thought I could have them. So high in protein and no carbs.  They don't bother me at all.  Help.

It's possible for a very high fat meal to cause dumping in some (30% or so) gastric bypass patients, although it's more likely to be triggered by high sugar, or by the high fat/high sugar combo (think ice cream, donuts). Dietitians will tell you to never do anything that isn't 100% healthy ever again. Realistically, you should aim for a good balance of protein, carbs, and fat each day. Should you eat fried foods every day? No. Is it possible they will make you sick? Maybe. Is it okay to eat some to see what happens and have them for a treat every now and again? Yes.

I'm not at all hungry on this liquid pre-op diet, but I miss the sensation of chewing. It's been about two weeks––surgery is in two days––and I can't imagine how I'll feel a couple of weeks post-op. Tonight, I randomly stumbled upon a mukbang channel on YouTube, and it was strangely soothing... is it just me, or is this a thing?

I actually watched cooking shows during my pre-op, like Great British Baking Show. It was a little bizarre, but didn't make me hungry. I think it was also soothing in a way.

How do you figure out what your ideal weight should be? I've had a figure in my head for years, but after 3 mths of recovery I'm already almost there. So maybe my goal should be lower?

Well, there is actually a formula for "Ideal Body Weight" and you can use a calculator to figure it out for you. This one also does an adjusted weight for a person who starts out overweight or obese. https://www.mdcalc.com/calc/68/ideal-body-weight-adjusted-body-weight

I would use that as a starting point, and then just see how you feel as you lose. How you look and feel is more important than a number.

      2. Clueless_girl

I did find different calculators but I couldn't find any that accounted for body frame. But you're right, it is just a number. It was just disheartening to see that although I lost 60% of my excess weight, it's still not in the "normal/healthy" range..

      3. NickelChip

I think it's important to remember that the weight charts and BMI ranges were developed a very long time ago and only intended to be applied to people who have never been overweight or obese. Those numbers aren't for us. When you are larger, especially for a long time, your body develops extra bone to support the weight. Your organs get a little bigger to handle the extra mass. Your entire infrastructure increases so you can support and function with the extra weight. That doesn't all go away just because you burn off the excess fat. If you still had a pair of jeans from your skinniest point in life and then lost weight to get to the exact number on the scale you were when those jeans fit you, chances are they would be a little baggy now because you would actually be thinner than you were, even though the scale and the BMI chart disagree. When in doubt, listen to the jeans, not the scale!

Tomorrow marks two weeks since surgery day and while I'm feeling remarkably well and going about just about every normal activity, I did wind up with a surface abscess on on of my incision sights and was put on an antibiotic that made me so impacted that it took me more than two hours to eliminate yesterday and scared the hell out of me. Now there's Miralax in all my beverages that aren't Smooth Move tea. I cannot experience that again. I shouldn't have to take Ativan to go to the lady's. I really looking forward to my body getting with the program again.
I'm in day three of the "puree" stage of eating and despite the strange textures, all of the savory flavors seem decadent.
I timed this surgery so that I'd be recovering during my spring break. That was a good plan. Today is a state holiday and the final day of break. I feel really strong to return to school tomorrow.

Now that I'm in maintenance mode, I'm getting a into a routine for my meals. Every day, I start out with 8-16 ounces of water, and then a proffee, which I have come to look forward to even the night before. My proffees are simply a black coffee with a protein powder added. There are three products that I cycle through: Premier Vanilla, Orgain Vanilla, and Dymatize Vanilla.
For second breakfast on workdays, I will have a low-fat yogurt with two tablespoons of PBFit and two teaspoons of no sugar added dried cherries. I will have ingested 35-45 grams of protein at this point between the two breakfasts, with 250-285 calories, and about 20 carbs.
For second breakfast on non-workdays, I will prepare two servings of plain, instant oatmeal with a tablespoon of an olive oil-based spread. This means I will have had 34 grams of protein, 365 calories, and 38 carbs. Non-workdays are when I am being very active with training sessions, so I allow myself more carbohydrate fuel.
Snacks on any day are always mixed nuts, even when I am travelling. I will have 0.2 cups of a blend that I make myself. It consists of dry roasted peanuts, cashews, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, pistachios, and Brazil nuts. This is 5 grams of protein, 163 calories, and 7 carbs.
Breakfast and snacks have been the easiest to nail down. Lunch and dinner have more variables, and I prepare enough for leftovers. I concentrate on protein first, and then add vegetables. Typically tempeh, tofu, or Field Roast products with roasted or sautéed vegetables. Today, I will be eating leftovers from last night. Two ounces of tempeh with four ounces of roasted vegetables that consist of red and yellow sweet peppers, sweet potatoes, small purple potatoes, zucchini, and carrots. I will add a tablespoon of olive oil-based spread, break up 3 walnuts to sprinkle of top, and garnish with two tablespoons of grated Parmesan cheese. This particular meal will be 19 grams of protein, 377 calories, and 28 grams of carbs. Bear in mind that I do eat more carbs when I am not working, and I focus on ingesting healthy carbs instead of breads/crackers/chips/crisps.
It's a helluva journey and I'm thankful to be on it!
