Lab Band Removal - Hospital Stay Duration???

Recommended Posts

I am going to have my lap band removed next week. It is eroding and causing significant pain in my stomach, mostly upper left quadrant. I was just wondering what to expect in terms of length of stay in the hospital after the surgery. I have heard that it can vary depending on the extent of the damage. I pray the stay is not long, but I am worried there is considerable damage with the amount of pain I have been experiencing.

HI

I had my band removed a couple weeks ago. My surgery was at 4:30pm. I spent the night, and was given approval for discharge by my surgeon at 7am the next morning. I spent the night because I live an hour away from my surgeon and wanted to be close in case there were any problems.

There was very little damage internally, so I don't know how much difference there will be for you since you already know there is considerable damage.

I thought there would be a lot of damage because of how miserable I had been, so was pleasantly surprized.

I was on Clear Liquids in the hospital during the night. Full liquids the next day, then mushies by that first evening for 1 to 2 weeks according to my own judgment. I ate a lot of scrambled eggs, yams, and chocolate pudding.< /p>

Take good care of yourself!

My plan is to have a gastric sleeve done since I've had a pretty terrible experience with the band. Thank you for your reply to my post.

I went home same day as my removal. I had a slip with just early erosion though so you may have a completely different experience. I will say that as soon as I woke up from surgery all the discomfort I'd had with my band was totally gone. It was like magic :) good luck!!!

Hello: My band eroded and I had it removed in July. Removal was Tuesday morning. I was sent home on Friday morning. It's a lot harder than getting the band because the surgeon has to repair the damage from the erosion. They didn't let me have anything by mouth until Friday morning. You'll be on IV for all of your nutrition if they treat you like I was treated. I wish you the best. I ended up having an infection and back into the hospital for four more days. All is well now, but I'm grieving for my band. I am now considering sleeve, but I have a lot to learn. Best wishes for your surgery.

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
