Recommended Posts

I'm 5'5" and 213. Goal is 135. Being banded 8/31/12. Dr.'s pre-op diet is South Beach Supercharged for 7-10 days before banding. liquids day before surgery. I started the diet on Aug 2 to get a jump start, but still having my wine in the evening. So far so good.

I'm 5'6.5 and currently 172 lbs, started at 226 pre-op January of this year. I love my band and what it has done for me, I may be slow-losing but it it is not Up and Down, which has been the case for me for the last 20 years. I am not sure yet what my goal weight will be... Just taking it as it comes, probably 145 would be perfect. My sleep apnea has resolved and I feel and look so much better. Just wish I would've taken on the band earlier in my adulthood, could have saved precious time wasted on struggling with diets that just made me feel like a failure in the weight-loss department. Now I feel like I am armed and ready!

Just an update... I'm 5'6.5 and 145 now. I've been very, very pleased and think I am a good example of how sometimes not all of your excess weight is lost in the first year ... The losses can continue if you continue to work at it ... Even after months long plateaus!

Congrats! I am 5'4 and 240, BMI 41. My lowest weight in the past 10 years was 185 and I felt amazing. I am so excited to potentially get down to 160-170 in the next year or two with the help of the band. Can't even begin to imagine how healthy that will feel !

If your bmi is over 30 in uk you can go private, it really is no ones business if you decide to do it or not, at the end of the day is a decision only you can make and take in consideration perhaps what your family has to say. My experience I believe I was 32 bmi, I'm only 5ft1 and always struggled with my weight, I was 14st4 when I decided to have the surgery as I really tried everything in my power to do loose the weight since I was 10. Sometimes we just need that extra push and the band done that for me as been a very hard process but very rewarding I went from size uk 18 to 8!!!!! From 14st4 to 8st13!!! I am glad to say I have no extra skin and really happy to have done the surgery when I was 21! Not even one year on and I already lost all the weight and I am now with a healthy bmi!! Good luck to you all, and do what feels right but remember is a tool not a miracle, you gotta really work on your nutrition, for 3 months I did not touch chocolate or anything bad at all!! Will power!!!

I was banded Dec 2013. I'm 5' 4" and was 202 day of surgery. I had to keep the weight up a bit to have insurance pay for surgery. It's crazy to know that I couldn't lose weight prior to weight loss surgery. Well I was able to lose once I was approved. I'm now down to 178 and I'm getting excited. Gained and lost 30, 40, 50, 60lbs. Every time I lost the weight it would find me again and bring some friends.

I haven't really told many people at all about the surgery due to my embarrassment and not being 'that big' whatever that means. Having other people here that are lower BMI would be great.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
