I am 33 years old, going on 34 in April (well, technically January) - and it occurred to me that my mother had a heart attack, which resulted in open-heart surgery, when she was 41. My father died when he was 44. Granted, he had been misdiagnosed, but my mother had health issues her entire life. I stepped on the scale last week, and I have topped over 300 pounds. Even though I avoid red meat, wine, and sugars, I still keep gaining. My doctor has told me that my thyroid is to blame, and so I have gone on thyroid hormones and have been working out for thirty minutes a day. Yet the scale keeps creeping up... and it isn't stopping. I looked at myself in the mirror and decided that I was tired of not being able to wear pretty clothes, tired of having my blood pressure out of whack, and fearful of what remaining overweight is going to do to me. If I don't lose the weight, I know my quality, and possibly even the length of my life, will be affected.

And so I have made a decision. After a 90-day waiting period, including meetings with nutritionists, psychiatrists, nurses, doctors, and an intensive strict diet, I will undergo surgery to have the Lap-Band placed. Today I had my first appointment, and my follow up is July 29th. My surgery will be on December 2nd.  I'm writing so openly about this, because in order to succeed I need to have support from my family and friends, and also because it will help to keep me accountable. Please pray for Miah and I as I begin this journey, this new chapter of my life. I will start to post pictures soon so you can see my progress. Thanks for reading!
