I'm Sugary Sweetheart and l love to cook and eat! Unfortunately, I've eaten my way to morbid obesity and now contend with co morbidities: Diabetes II, High BP and High Chol.

I started dieting after having a child in '92. I saw a therapist who diagnosed me with overeating/bulimia (without purging).  I've tried Weight Watchers twice, Jenny Craig, Deal a Meal, Furman High Protein Diet, Phen-Fenn, amongst cleanses and other "healthy" eating styles like vegetarianism. I have taken classes for diabetes dieting, and saw a dietician for 5 months without any loss of weight. All the advice I received over the last 24 years has been to my detriment.  Not until I chose a PCP who specializes in weight loss did I have someone to tell me I needed to see a Bariatric Surgeon.

Negative to the idea of surgery I forced myself to go and at least talk out the plan.  It took me the entire year to be convinced I could not lose the weight on my own.  I planned to attend each step towards the surgery while dieting and exercising and If I lost the weight I'd cancel the surgery.  After seeing a Bariatric Nutritionist I was convinced this was for me. Psychological obstacles hung around my head but my surgeon assured me I was definitely NOT bulimic and that the food pyramid is way outdated and unreliable and to no surprise people today don't know how to nourish their bodies and lose weight in an appropriate way. I finally felt justified in not having lost weight and kept it off.

In preparing for surgery I was to lose 10% of my current weight. I started to employ the strategies of what I had learned from Pre op classes. I started taking vitamins and lowered my caloric intake to 1280 while focusing on high protein, low carbs, & low sugars. In 14 weeks  I dropped from 244 to 216.
Although proud of my accomplishments I knew I was just scratching the surface and needed the surgical tool to help in my progress to reverse my diseases and give me a second chance at a healthy long life.  I took that opportunity with a lot of prayer to my God Jehovah.  Pouring out my worries and concerns. I felt confident in my decision. As of July 13th, 2016, I am now a gastric sleeve patient.
