I am am a wife, mother, grandmother and Aeroengineer for the government. I have been overweight most of my life, and have gotten rather comfortable with the weight, but my knees are wasting away and I found out last year that my legs are bowing from carrying so much weight. I have done all kinds of diets and all work to some degree, but the weight comes back, because they are just that..Diets. I have looked into lap band for several months before I visited the weight loss center. I checked with several of my doctors and all thought it was a good Idea. So after much self debate and introspection, I decided to take the plunge. My insurance covered the procedure, and after about 4-5 months of prep I had my surgery on 17 Jan. I have done very well in recovery and lost 15 lb from the beginning through the procedure. I did not try to lose any more but did try to maintain through the recovery, and that is what I did. Yesterday, 10 Feb, I had my first fill. I had no issues from the fill. I had 1.8cc from surgery, they added 1.8 cc yesterday. I feel a little difference but not much. I am hoping to drop a pound or two this month since I can get back to the gym. My goal is 160lb, so I have about a year of work ahead of me. My doctor wants his patients to focus on low carb, proteins first, crunchy green veggies next and if there is room, a few carbs. So far that has not been a real problem to deal, with. But I hit Europe in May, we will see if I feel the same then!

I.5 years out and boy are there changes and issues. I am super sensitive to fills. I have a very sensitive stomach that is easily irritated and after about May( 5 months in ) I started with the issues. Now it is old hat. I had to have about 2ml removed for about 3 weeks. Then started back with .25 at a time. I am now 1.5 years out. My band has 4.9cc. I leveled off at 170 lb in November and have just started losing a little after my last fill. I go a month or two between fills and they are now about .2 cc.
It is still worth all the trouble. But I have to relearn how to eat each time. I go for about 2 weeks after each fill with more bad days than good. then 2 more weeks with about half and half. After that I have mostly good days until my next fill.
