  1. Hello all, It has been awhile since I posted. I have searched and searched and found no answers to my question so I figured I would just ask. I'm three years out from my sleeve surgery. I was doing pretty well (lowest weight 164, maintained around 174-178 with diet and exercise). I'm hypothyroid (have been since I was 18) and had a partial hysterectomy a year before sleeve surgery. I decided to try biote (just testosterone) as well as desiccated thyroid. Well, I have been on the biote pellets for a month and I went from three years of really no hunger to being famished all the time. I have gained 5 pounds in a month. I am eating protein, low carbs etc. etc. but I can't go two hours without getting hungry again and therefore, I'm eating more total calories. Life got really busy with grad school, work and taking three kids to various practices after school but that is over and I'm about to get back into exercising hoping this will help as I do feel REALLY good on the biote (no more joint pain, focused, energy and libido). Has anyone else had this experience on hormone pellets? They are suppose to help you lose weight but I'm not seeing it.
  2. I did switch from synthroid to naturthroid so maybe that needs to titrate. I have done the Paleo and Keto thing and even when I fell off carb wagon, I haven't felt hunger like this. It is if I never had the surgery because I can eat a lot more too (I know about slider foods etc. etc.) I saying I could eat half a plate of food, now I can eat a whole plate almost over night. It is a bit scary.

    I should add that everyone is different. I'm 45 and missing half my thyroid and underwent a partial hysterectomy (that will slow down anyone's metabolism). So for ME, restricting calories to 500-800 worked at first but if I did that now, my body would revolt and hold onto weight (I also follow a keto diet). If I go over 1500, I gain so (again for me) 1,000 with lots of exercise will get me losing and 1200 with exercise will have me maintaining.

    I'm a little over 2 years out too and have gained about 10. I'm not as strict as I was but I also work like crazy. I don't regret getting sleeved but what I've learned is the most weight loss really is within the first six months (during healing). After your stomach heals, you can eat more but more importantly, your metabolism has crawled to nothing. Therefore, when you do start eating more, it only takes a minimal amount of calories to make you gain.

    Keytogenic Diet

    I'm two years out today. I've stalled out for the last year with 30 pounds to go. I've been playing around with Paleo for awhile but decided to go keto a week ago. Too soon to tell if it will kick start my weight loss again but I do notice that I do not eat as much. I was in a bad habit of eating slider foods. I didn't really gain because I work out all the time but I wasn't losing either.
  6. If you are like me before surgery, you are searching the internet like crazy to see if this sleeve thing works. I also hate lengthly stories that make me skim and scan for relevant info through wordy explanations. So.... here are my main points of what I have learned about living with sleeve surgery in almost two years. 1. My "honeymoon" was only six months (that's it). The scale hasn't budged after the first six months post surgery. So use your honeymoon wisely. This really bugged me for awhile until I read about how our bodies respond to the extreme restriction of calories. Your metabolism will slow to a halt eventually and even though I can not eat a lot now, If I eat the wrong things, my body holds onto the calories and Water weight (see point 4). 2. I truly needed to change my relationship with food. My relationship now: Most days that are your typical go to work etc. routine days, I have roughly the same thing to eat: A premier Protein shake for Breakfast, Starkist Thai tunafish pouch, Justin's almond butter and raw veggies for lunch and bone broth with chicken and veggies for dinner. Holidays, birthdays, etc. I eat whatever I like (it has been two weeks of feasting). I might actually overdo it (grazing) but I make sure I continue to work out. So I have maintained my weight over the holidays. 3. I work out for my overall health not to lose weight. I go to Orange Theory 2-3 times per week and pilates 3-5 times per week. Expensive? Yes, but I do not have a car payment and choose to drive a 10 year old car so I can workout. 4. I rarely, if ever, get on a scale. I bought a fat and BMI measurement device ($19.00 on Amazon) and I use this to keep track. I learned this when my weight fluctuated as much as 7 pounds from water weight and my mood would change based on these numbers. Nope, not going to do it. 5. Fat is good. I try to follow a Paleo diet as much as possible and the major premise is good fats are good for you! I try to avoid carbs and sugar. So to sum it up... best decision I have made for my health. Do I worry about gaining weight back? Not as much as I did a year ago. I have found a system that works for me. Advice...find what works for you after the honeymoon phase is over and real life food comes back into play. I HIGHLY recommend an exercise program. It really is the only way I can have my relaxed eating phases.

  8. I was sleeved in March 2014. I lost all of my weight within 7 months and have maintained/ been stuck for the last year. Stats: Start weight: 230 Weight after 7 months: 166 Current weight: 173 Height: 5.6 I would like to lose another 20 pounds but my body is being stubborn. I also thought I would lose more after starting orange theory last December and Pilates last August. No! However, not going to be a negative Nancy here.   10. I was sleeved in March 2014. I went from 230 to 166 and crept up to 175. Now I fluctuate between 175 and 170. Here is the kicker....I work out 3-5 days per week at orange theory, burning 450 to 500 calories per session and I still maintain. My eating isn't as strict as it was the first year but I still follow a high Protein low carb diet 80% of the time. Basically, maintaining is hard work! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  11. I am 1 year and three months out. I went from 230 to lowest of 164. I'm now up to 174 (and that is after doing cross training 3 to 4 times a week plus jogging for 30 minutes every other day). I will admit I'm not following the plan as strictly as I used to but I'm not going crazy either. Anyway, want to get back on track before 10 pounds turns into 20 but it seems impossible to lose anymore! So curious if anyone gained weight and was successful again at losing?     Insulin Resistance and Gastric Sleeve

    I was insulin resistant prior to surgery (had gestational diabetes with 3rd pregnancy). Off all meds after surgery which is great! What I found was prior to surgery, I would try to exercise and my blood sugar would drop so I never really exercised. Now, I can do HIIT training, hike, go a whole day without worrying if I will go hypoglycemic or not (cleaning my house would cause a low blood sugar attack). I will say that I am a year out and I have found that if I cheat with carbs or sugar, it has caused me to have a low blood sugar attack (not often but has happened 3-6 times over the year). This gets me freaked out enough to watch my cards again.

    One year out 80lbs down. Why can't I lose

    I'm right there with you. Lost 60 pounds the first six months. Have lost and gained the same 4-5 pounds for 6 months. I started HIIT training one hour a day 3-4 days a week in December. Still no loss. I will say I haven't followed the program as strictly as in the beginning. I track, I drink all my Water (never drink soda, juice etc.) but my carbs can get high from fruits. Plus, I am hungrier now. I'm okay with maintaining, just don't want to gain. Maybe I'll lose some more down the road JUST NO GAIN!
  16. Anyone else experience a complete stop of weight loss after roughly 6-7 months post op? I have been at the same wight +- 4 pounds since October. This is onto of starting an intense work out that I have been doing 3-4 days per week since December. 30 pounds to go and frustrated! Yes, I eat my Protein, drink 60 oz of Water and keep carbs low.

    weight loss stopped at 7 months

    I think my downfall is dairy/cheese. I have been doing a Paleo diet but stopped tracking calories/protein et.c because I felt like it was taking over my life. Might need to get back on the tracking band wagon after a two month break, lose some weight and stop again. I have been thinking about going back to basics (i.e. Protein shakes etc.).

    Calories Don't Matter?

    I am almost a year out (this month on 3/24). I stopped losing weight after 7 months (October). For those first 7 months, I tracked every bite in myfitnesspal. By November, I was miserable and depressed. I almost felt like I was developing another eating disorder (I was bulimic in my teens). For the past two months I have been doing intense orange theory HIIT training and eat a Paleo diet. I ditched tracking calories and the fitbit and while I'm slowly losing (If I stay on the Paelo diet, I will lose but the minute I eat sugar, I stall) and I am WAY happier. I love that I am sleeved, I love the weight loss I have obtained, I'm committed to my health and to exercise, I had to stop obsessing bout calories and steps and start living other parts of my life again!
  19. I can't get below a size 10. Have been doing hiit training 4 days a week for 2 months and watching what I eat. Seem to have stopped losing at 8 months out. Now I fluctuate between 164 and 170 (I hold onto water weight forever). I'm apple shape and have 3 kids so I think my legs and butt could fit into a size 8 but my waist says nope, 10 is it.

  21. I am a slow loser and I ha e accepted this fact. I accepted a month stall at only 4 months out from surgery. I accepted that my indiscretions at Thanksgiving (3 days of not tracking and over indulgence in pumpkin pie) resulted in a gain of three pounds. However, I have been back on track since the Sunday after turkey day and feel like this stall is different. As if, this might be it for weight loss. I would like to lose 20 more before my one year anniversary in March but feeling discouraged!

    I need help/a kick in the pants

    So I am almost 11 months out and have been stalled for the last 3 months. I started orange theory HIIT training 4 days a week and GAINED weight. This prompted me to start researching why. Short answer: inflammation Water weight. However, this lead me down the road of how is my eating (your story sounds just like me!) I came across the Paleo plan. I want to post about this once I have travelled down the Paleo road a bit longer but it really makes sense to me (especially not tracking calories).
