For most of my life I have battled with weight issues. About a year ago, a close family member died mostly because he had refused to take care of himself. It was a wake-up call for me. I have taken care of some medical problems thru the years - thyroid, high blood pressure, diabetes type 2 - but the ultimate problem, my weight, has been hit or miss. Mostly miss. I decided it was time to be responsible for me. It was a hard & frustrating road until I finally had my surgery in March, 2012. I thought that once the surgery had been done, life would be a piece of cake - do not take that literally. I am here to tell you what most of you already know, that it is still hard; it is a struggle every day. I have been having a tough 2 weeks trying to stick to my new way of life. I am now experiencing the very old cravings for the foods that do the most damage & the guilt feelings that go along with overeating. I have lost 65# from September 2011 thru today, have cut my blood pressure meds in half, have no need any longer for the diabetes meds, But I am finding it harder & harder to keep focused on the very reasons I started this journey. I found an interesting article, "What's So Bad About Cheating on the Post-Op Diet" written by Jean McMillan, published in Healthy Living that has given me a boost. I know I am on the right path in life and sincerely hope that I can find the strength to continue. I have about 20# more that I would like to lose. I am happy to have found Lap Band Talk Forums to help me on my journey.
