Hi, I'm on April 17th too. The last week I have been on this site a lot and have learned so much, a great resource. i know how you feel about being alone, I know no one who has ever at had any kind of weight surgery. My surgery is at Yale in CT.

  8. My friends husband killed himself last night. He leaves a 4 and 6 year old and a lovely wife. You never ever know whats going on in someones head. Just hug the person you are with, tell them how much you love and support them no matter what and be grateful for having them in your life. I'm sat here crying, I could bloody throttle him for doing this but also know how low he reached. I have hit the gin and tonic again. I don't mean to be a drama queen but fuck....

Kate, I am very sorry. I can't imagine dealing with something like that. He must have been in some real pain. I'll be thinking about you.

My heart goes out to your friend and her children. I'm just appalled at the self-centeredness someone has to do that awful deed. Yes, he must have been hurting and broken, and my compassion for them is while they're living; there will always be help and hope. Take your own life, I have none. I'll be praying for comfort and peace for his family and friends. I'm sorry you have to face this...and more sorry for the children. Smh. Breaks my heart.

  9. Hi @OSU Gigi ! Are you in the Stillwater Support Group? I am a patient at Baileys in Owasso. My surgery is scheduled April 5th.  What about you?

    1. OSU Gigi

      OSU Gigi

Yes, I am in the Stillwater group, but didn't attend the last meeting. I was at Bailey's that day, finishing up some appointments so I didn't make it back in time. I'm having a vertical sleeve, and my surgery is this coming Tuesday, March 28. Dr. Katsis is my surgeon. I am so past ready to have it over with!

  10. I am also bipolar 2 and have had a gastric bypass many years ago. I have not had any problems with my meds and having this disease. I don't know how long ago you were diagnosed with bipolar but I know myself very well and can tell when I am slipping into a depression . Throughout the years my medicine has changed many times but I feel the gastric bypass has had nothing to do with it. You just learn to live with it and enjoy the benefits that your surgery will give you. I hope this has helped any of your fears that you are having.

  11.:44_frowning2::57_cry: Very angry and disappointed my breast surgery for tomorrow has been cancelled. Less than 24 hours before surgery I am told I have a lump and need a breast biopsy to be scheduled. Nothing like them waiting until the last minute.

    1. Newme17

      Newme17

Oh no! It's terrible they waiting till the last minute. On the other hand, let's pray this lump is NOTHING! and that it's good to get this part done before having the surgery anyhow. Be blessed hon!

  12. I've been back on the boards a bit today.  Hubby is on his way to a full recovery from his stroke, but has to have a procedure to repair a hole in his heart.  Back to focusing on me for a bit.  Did well staying on plan, but didn't lose anything, didn't gain either...so we'll call it a win.

Whelp I just got off the phone with the insurance company Federal BCBS and the representative told me that my case is still pending and that it is waiting on nurse review!  I hope this is good nurse. The representative said that this step takes 3 to 15 days.  So my goal is to remain patient and do what I can do on my end!!

Got you .....I have 8 more days this liquid diet is driving me crazy are you getting gastric bypass surgery?

  20. I am 9 days out and having some trouble. I was so excited a couple of days ago because I was going to be able to switch to puree foods. I was weighing in at 234 which was a full 10 pounds down from surgery day. On day 8, I tried some refried beans pureed with some salsa. I was able to eat about 1/2 cup. It was divine! Later that day I was able to try some thinned out mash potatoes and they didn't sit well. Well last night I tried some baked potato and I ate way too much too quickly and then I immediately regretted it. After dealing with that, I was just ready to go back to liquids. I drank a protein shake before bed in hopes that I wouldn't get woke up by my stomach "cramping" this morning. Well, it still happened. I am trying my best to get in as much water as possible during the day. I had severe gas pains this morning and I thought I was done with those, but undoubtedly this is going to be an ongoing issue. :( I am just not having a great day and I need some encouragement please. Please tell me this gets better and I am going to be able to advance to purees again.

    1. _Kate_

      _Kate_

Do you have a list of food choices for puréed stage? I wouldn't try potatoes, empty starch and carbs and you need to get protein in to help you heal. Just my opinion. You should really stick to what your team say.

    2. Mothra62

      Mothra62

Yes start with the protein first. It does get better☺

    3. mustangchick2008

      mustangchick2008

I do have a list of approved items. I have had to go back to mostly liquids because my stomach is cramping horribly when trying anything. I did buy some buffalo chicken dip that is prepackaged, but has great stats. I will continue trying things each day, but maybe my stomach is just not ready for pureeds yet. I am definitely making sure I am getting my protein with the shakes as I venture out to new foods.

  22. Day 6 of this diet is actually going really good. I am depending mainly on Protein Shakes today. I will however order a garden salad later since I can have leafy greens in my diet. I may just need fiber to kick this bowel issue I have been having.

Also, I should have never had carnation milk. Idk what I was thinking.

I will be honest I had the same idea running around in my head when I booked my Surgery but as long as you are 100% Honest on your Questionnaire you should be fine. They will ask you the medical info no less than 5 times before heading into surgery. The Cardiologist comes in after the chest X-ray and does a Ekg your Blood Pressure is checked many times. I know that if you go with a company such as Bariatric Pal and cant heve the surgery you will be refunded so what do you have to lose besides weight. Worst case is a 4 day vacation to Tijuana.

    3. Zumbabean

      Zumbabean

I tried to get the surgery in the US and of course my insurance denied me. I am borderline diabetic, I have to take medicine for high cholesterol and heart disease runs in my family. I have been yo yo dieting my entire life and I needed to do something. I noticed that a few of my coworkers were looking slimmer and found out that they all went to the same doctor in Mexico. I honestly struggled with this decision for over a year and just had the gastric sleeve surgery on 3/15. I'm home recovering and even though I'm barely starting this journey; I'm hopeful and think I made the right decision. The doctors and nurses in Tijuana were so good to me and didn't make me feel uncomfortable at all. In fact I left there making new friends. Yes it is easier to get it done in Mexico, but they still test you prior and make sure your healthy enough for the surgery. I plan on going back there to get more work done if all goes well here. I wish the doctors out here would see that this surgery isn't an easy fix; it's a life changing operation.

It's not healthy in regards to losing weight and trying to keep it off; it'll come back. But being such a temporary thing, it's all good cause you won't be eating after the sleeve anyway. Nice to see and feel the pounds go down though huh?

    3. Thejeweledsleeve

      Thejeweledsleeve

Yeah. I can feel myself getting lighter. There is not as much stress on my joints and my ankle. I just would like a day when I can walk like I used too.

  26. The following updates for 3/16:

    1) Did my stress test. They got my heart rate up to 185/bpm. We did the sonogram as well. I found out that I have a very strong and healthy heart. :D I got approved right there by the cardiologist.

    2) Went to see my new PCP. Honestly, she seemed very judgmental. She asked me why I did not take other types of appetite suppressants. I was like, "I don't know....maybe because the ones that I have tried has not worked." She then started naming other brands and I was just confused. I really thought that she was going to denied me surgery. I ended up receiving her approval after she did my blood work and a EKG of her own.

IDK. I am just glad that I am getting surgery.

My PCP ended up not taking my insurance anymore. I have been with this office since 2013, when I moved back to NYC. They stopped taking my insurance at the end of February so I had to find a brand new PCP.

I had to see her yesterday again and she was a lot nicer. Especially when I got on the scale and I had lost 8 lbs since the start of my liquid diet. I think she was a little hesitant about me at first, she probably thought I was some young kid trying to take the easy way out. She gave me great advise as well.

    3. Newme17

      Newme17

I'm glad she was nicer. She could have just had a bad day the day you were there too. I am glad it went well for you. I hate changing docs/insurances. It's very tedious, especially when you've got little ones; have to research and find good reviews, etc. But it seems to have gone well for ya. I'm glad.

Youre young;its no easy way out for any of us. But it's a fortunate way for you now at your age and that's a blessing.

    4. Thejeweledsleeve

      Thejeweledsleeve

I am glad that I have this opportunity, I did not think that people my age would be even be eligible for the surgery. I am glad that I made the discussion to check and start the process. I am looking forward to this.

Changing Docs and insurance really is a long drawn out process. The craziest thing is that the first time, it was soo easy. I did not have to do much of anything, accept read and sign some papers.

My surgeon actually referred me to her. I think they might have a crush on each other lol. That would be riot though. She is sooo serious and he is goofy. When he referred me and called her, he was blushing and giggle like a school boy trying to be cool. When she realized that I was the patient he had referred, she started blushing lol. It is funny.

  27. Today is the ending of day 4 on my liquid (greens) diet. I decided yesterday to visit my granny and little cousins since I was in Manhattan. Did not prepare to stay the night. I did not have any protein shakes. I ended up getting some cucumbers which are allowed on my diet and eating those. I had a 2 sugar free Popsicles, 1 can of carnation milk (fat free) with some tea. I finally found a pharmacy that had the premier protein shakes. The only issue is, between yesterday and today, my protein intact is low. I am feeling obnoxiously happy and I am not sure if I am delusional or what.

Yesterday, I only had 350 calories of food with a Protein intact of 18g. Today is much better with 390 calories but a protein intact of 40g. I am hoping that I have not truly starved myself.

Tomorrow, my goal is to catch up on my protein. I am thinking that the 3 shakes, and two cups of broth can put me back on track. I weigh in tomorrow as well. Maybe I will see some pounds dropped (fingers crossed).
